PDF: Quick links are interrupting the flow of text

m.ramesh@...

Hi,

Quick links (I’m not sure what exactly they’re called) are interrupting the flow of text. We have kept them in every page of the PDF so that the user could go the previous page, last page, print the document etc.

Please help me in making NVDA skip reading these buttons.

Regards
Ramesh

Did you check the task manager to see if another instance of Word was still opened?  After the crash, there may have been an instance opened that was causing the problem.

Re: column/row headers not reading in Excel 2013

Jenine,

I hope that the following may help, as it should apply to NVDA as well as JAWS (thought I wrote it for a student who was using JAWS).  I have generally found it easier to set the title row/column in the Excel spreadsheet itself, then setting the screen reader to read those as I move up/down/left right (if that's wanted).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Assigning a Title Row (Column Titles) and/or Title Column (Row Titles) in Excel

You can assign column and row titles in Excel. These are nice because they always work with Excel and are saved to the workbook. There's no risk of losing a setting in your screen reader.

To add column and row title names:

    1. Focus on the first cell in the row or column or at the first cell where the title row and title column intersect
    2. Open the Name dialog:

                                                               i.      Open the Formula ribbon (ALT-M)

ii.      Activate the “Define Name” command (M)

iii.      Within the drop-down list, activate “Define Name”

iv.      The “New Name” dialog opens

Focus is placed in the name field. Within the name field, you can name the focused cell or selected range of cells. In this case, we’re naming the column or row title:

    1. Name the cell using the following rules

                           i.  Start the range name with the label that tells Excel you’re creating a title range

        1. Title – This tells Excel the column and row that intersect at the active cell are a title row and column
        2. ColumnTitle – This tells Excel the focused column contains the titles for the rows within the range
        3. RowTitle – this tells Excel the focused row contains titles for the columns in the range

ii.      Add a name for the range

        1. Title_WidgetSales
        2. ColumnTitle_WidgetSales
        3. RowTitle_WidgetSales

iii.      Optional - Add the last cell in the range preceded by two periods

        1. Use this when you have multiple regions in a worksheet
        2. Title_WidgetSales..J25
        3. ColumTitle_WidgetSales..h32
        4. RowTitle_WidgetSales..r12
        5. Remember the cell address referenced is the last cell in the range for which you are creating titles

The next field in the dialog sets the scope for the name. this is a combo box. Use UP and DOWN ARROW to choose from between:

  • Workbook - the title Is unique and can’t be used elsewhere in a workbook
  • A Specific Worksheet - the name can be used elsewhere in a workbook

You can add a comment for the named cell or region, this is strictly for your personal reference and doesn’t affect the echo of the column or row title name

The last field references the cell name or range of selected cells you’re naming. You can leave this field alone.

Activate the OK button to save the name and close the dialog.

Save the workbook and the titles are permanently saved and will work on any computer.

If you have titles set to echo in JAWS, the titles will echo and you won’t lose the settings.

column/row headers not reading in Excel 2013

Jenine Stanley <jenine@...>

I’ve had this issue since I think the last build, but am just now getting around to asking about it.

I use Excel 2013, Windows 10 latest public build and now NVDA 2019.1.

I use the command to set a column header, or row header but more often column header, and nothing happens. I’m using NVDA+shift+C.

This issue happens no matter the size of the spreadsheet. I’ve tried making it an official table first then choosing the column headers and that doesn’t seem to have an effect. Is there something that’s changed about Excel, a command or setting I need to change?

Otherwise, I love NVDA with Excel! Can’t say that loudly enough.

Subject: [nvda] Question about reading an entire line with NVDA

Hey guys, I'm here again :)
This time the question is about... well you saw it on the subject I suppose :)
So, the thing is: I found out that pressing CTRL along with the down arrow, NVDA will read the entire line from a text, regardless if that line is broken for some reason.
However, while I just found it out, I also found out that apparently, this  option isn't described on the NVDA's keystrokes refference.
So my question: is it actually something expected, that pressing CTRL+down arrow NVDA will read the entire line? If so, why isn't it described as an option?
Or, well, what would I be missing? Can anyone point me on the right direction? :)

Hi everyone,

Apologies for the slight delay in the announcement, and I see several
of you have already posted about it, but yes, NV Access is pleased to

Highlights of this release include performance improvements when
accessing both Microsoft word and Excel, stability and security
improvements such as support for add-ons with version compatibility
information, and many other bug fixes.

In the release announcement at
https://www.nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2019-1-now-available/ there is
also important information about add-on compatibility. Note that
although the framework for having add-ons report versions
compatibility is there, and we encourage all add-on developers to
update their add-ons to include this if they haven't already - This
version of NVDA will however still allow installing and loading of
add-ons that do not yet contain Minimum and Last Tested NVDA version
information at all, but upgrading to future versions of NVDA (E.g.
2019.2) may automatically cause these older add-ons to be disabled.

Kind regards

Reporting an Issue with NVDA - Including Sample Submission

Hello All,

I have still never nailed down how, precisely, one does this via github.

Under 2019.1 (and it may have been occurring earlier, I haven't played with this recently) I have an MS-Word fillable form.  When I initially open the form and begin traversing the text edit fields and checkboxes, NVDA keeps saying "blank" rather than reading the labels assigned to each of these items until or unless I hit F1 on any one of them to force help text to appear once, then afterward the labels are being read.   However, for the checkboxes, when I hit spacebar to change state for them, I get no feedback as to "checked" or "unchecked," and I know it used to tell me the state the checkbox was in when I landed on it initially and after any key press that would toggle the state.

I can submit the .dotx file from which each document gets created and/or an instance of the .docx document itself.   Something's changed, though, because I know this used to work as expected and without the need for any gyrations to get the labels for each form field to read as you traversed the form.

Re: Question about reading an entire line with NVDA

Evidently, you are reading a text document and not a word processor document or a web page in browse mode.  The command is a Windows command, move to next paragraph, and it works where a document has paragraph signs.  But a text file doesn't have paragraph signs; a paragraph is denoted by a blank line.  Windows doesn't look for blank lines so the command doesn't work there.  JAWS does look for blank lines so you can use the command in Notepad to move by paragraph, but not in NVDA.  This is an ability NVDA should add.

Hey guys, Molly here

I got the NVDA 2019.1 last night and I love it 😂 I’ve noticed much improved responsiveness with the one-core voices, particularly while using the internet.

Thank you so much NVDA team ☺  NVDA is truly amazing.
