I don't really have a solution (aside from the usual of creating a github issue for anything you can repro or get a debug log for).  Just thought I'd post to say I'm reading the thread, also for control not always stopping speech immediately, I have found in cases like that, SHIFT is often more immediate (with the advantage you can press it again to keep reading from where it stopped).

I've seen this happen in an installer now and then and it is especially

I can send a speciffic program, the actual files, it’s a portable program

Re: NVDA - Next Beta

Quentin Christensen

Actually, the announcements of new releases should become even more timely now.  Reef has been hitting the "Go" button on many of our releases, and he has been in Europe for the last year or so, which meant sometimes releases happen in the night my time (and I need all the beauty sleep I can get!) - He's back in Australia now, so releases should normally not be too late in the evening here now.

As Carlos indicated, things are moving towards the next beta release cycle.  There isn't one out yet, but we'll definitely post in the group here, and on nvaccess.org when it's available.  In the meantime, if you do want to try out the latest updates and code, you can find our alpha releases at: https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/snapshots/

I regularly ramble on about the release cycle in our In-process blog: https://www.nvaccess.org/category/in-process/ But basically we release "alpha" builds just about daily (sometimes several in a day, sometimes we go a couple days without one) - these include whatever fixes and new features have been worked on lately - and there's no guarantee they're 100% stable.  As we get closer to a release, we put out a Beta version.  Any major issues identified are fixed and we may go to a second or third beta as needed.  Once we think we have everything ironed out, we release a "Release Candidate" or RC build.  Unless any major issues are identified, this will be the same as the final release.  If anything troubling is found, we (hopefully) fix it, or revert whatever caused it, and put out a second (or third or more) RC build.  Once an RC build has been out for a week or so with nothing major being reported, we release the final stable version and start working towards the next version.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Re: Windows mail not responding to keyboard

Hi all,

For John: can you tell me what NVDA tells you (through braille) when you press Control+NVDA+F1 while a message is open in Mail app? If it says “commsapps.exe”, then the solution is using Windows 10 App Essentials add-on until the bug fix shows up to everyone (currently the bug fix in question is part of alpha builds).

Cheers,

Nothing. I tried to desactivate and reactivate the Braille extension, and nothing has changed.

Do you have a driver from Papenmeier for your display?  It's not one I'm familiar with, so I'm not sure if anything particular is required to set it up.  That it is working for output is a good start though.

If you turn on NVDA's input help - NVDA+1 - does NVDA report anything when you press the keys on the display?  Input help should read out keys and what they do, without performing any actions.  Press NVDA+1 again to turn input help off.

Kind regards

Hello list,

in the last few that it has become an every day use in my life, as
I've primarily been using System Access. However, since that screen
reader's future is uncertain, I want to get a few things with NVDA
fixed. I have two fairly major problems with Office 2016 on Windows 10
and the latest version on NVDA:
1. In Excel, whenever I try to modify a spreadsheet, NVDA stops
reading the document that is in focus. For instance, I like to double
check where I inserted a row. So, I will navigate to the row where I
want to insert, hit my applications key, choose insert from the menu,
and choose "entire row" from the dialog that pops up. On clicking OK,
I am returned to the spreadsheet as expected, but unless I alt-tab
away from and back to the spreadsheet or restart NVDA, it will not
read anything in the spreadsheet. Is there any way to fix this so that
NVDA will continue to read things in spreadsheets after taking such
actions? Note, it does not do this if working in a table within the
spreadsheet, just when the spreadsheet isn't a table.
2. The bigger issue is with Outlook, where reading at least some HTML
emails is nearly impossible with NVDA. This is particularly
problematic on emails from Groupon, which I have a lot of on my other
account which I access through Outlook. When I open those emails,
Outlook unexpectedly closes. This is the primary reason I still use
System Access with Outlook, because I've never had this problem with
that screen reader.

Hi, joseph

Yes, in my personal experience, NVDA does not work well in MS Word, and it is even worse in VS2019. It is common to get stuck without saying anything.
When I enable UIA support in WORD, the comments in the document become unreadable, so that I dare not enable UIA in Word at all.

Hi,  Pranav,

I am using Office365, but the same is true for Office2019, F6 can return to the body of the document.
In addition, when NVDA reports the "Toolbar", a rectangular box is displayed on the screen, in which is the content of my comments.

That UI Automation checkbox did the trick with the Outlook problem, I just tried it. I agree there's way too much unecisary table information though. I'm not sure if it's how this particular email was laid out, but it appeared to read the first row over and over again when tabbing through. I'll have to investigate that further.
