Did you switch synthesizers? Before doing that, did you apply the saved configuration, NVDA key control r?  Did you also try playing something to make sure the sound card is functioning?

NVDA is still firing up, but is dead silent.  Before I uninstall and reinstall I thought I'd ask if there's something I should check first.  I have the No Beeps Speech add-on and have tried toggling states, but that has no effect.

Re: NVDA Suddenly Silent after latest Win10 Cumulative Update

Hi,
What I'm really interested in finding out is what NVDA records in the log -
perhaps it might be a DLL problem, a startup issue, etc.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: Nvda and Free Commander

Jacob Kruger

No specific add-on involved, and, NVDA + T would generally just announce the window title?

BTW, let me double-check that we're talking about same file manager - I'm occasionally working with FreeCommander XE version 2018.0.0.770:

https://freecommander.com/en/summary/

By the way, am also working under windows 10 64 bit, so, yes, I do have the windows 10 app essentials add-on installed, but, also don't think that's really relevant.

Re: NVDA reads Drupal 8 Superfish menu in Chrome with "link ALT+" appended to the end of href links

Good morning,

I wanted to report back that the Drupal Superfish issue with NVDA has been resolved. Superfish was injecting an empty "accesskey" attribute into href links which NVDA and JAWS were both announcing as ALT+. The attribute has been removed and now both SRs read the menu correctly. Thank you Luke for your suggestion as it was the right path to follow.

Regards.

Buttons on embedded Acast player

Steve Griffiths

Has anyone tried to use the Acast podcast player on a website? I've found that the buttons to play and pause the podcast work in Chrome, but are unlabelled in Firefox and not even announced in Internet Explorer, although they do take focus. Is there a setting in NVDA or the browser that I can change to correct this? Or should I approach the NVDA developers about it?

Thanks,

Steve 🐾

Dear Luke

The issue with the sound moving to the right speaker is only on the laptop
speakers. The sound is clear through earphones.

However, whether I use earphones or not, my NVDA ducks whenever windows
makes a sound.

I also have to set NVDA on a low volume through earphones and change volume
using the speaker settings otherwise NVDA is too loud. The jumps between
volumes on my NVDA are massive.

Hi all,

After receiving feedback regarding recent add-on updates and compatibility checks, I’m going to do two things:

  1. Revert releases: although Project Threshold does say that NVDA 2019.3 is required, feature set isn’t frozen. Thus I’m reverting recent releases.
  2. Threshold/add-on compatibility work put on hold: until the “real” game changer comes to Threshold and getting clearance to introduce Threshold work, I’m putting Threshold add-on work on hold for all my add-ons (for now, all of my add-ons, including Add-on Updater, are affected by this hold).

For those using Add-on Updater: depending on if you’ve updated add-ons recently or not, you’ll either get no update announcement or a dialog asking you to “update”. Don’t worry if update versions seem to be older than what you might be using.

A note to anyone wishing to test Project Threshold with add-ons: at this time, I advise against it until “green light” is issued from authorities. The exception is for add-on developers who are interested in keeping an eye on changes coming with this project – hold off releasing Threshold powered add-on versions until told to do so.

Cheers,

Joseph

I use Free Commander for free on my computer.
To switch between individual panels, press Tab.
However, Nvda does not tell me which panel I am in.
Free Commander is available at:

I wonder if there will ever be a sound system for Free Commander implemented in Nvda.
(I'm talking about the sound so Nvda can tell me in Free Commander the left and right panels.)

Threshold/add-on releases round 2: reverting recent releases/compatibility range changes, Threshold work from my add-ons put on hold #addonrelease

Cheers,

Joseph

Thanks for the explanation.

Hi,
Project Threshold introduces at least two backwards incompatible changes to
NVDA: a long overdue speech refactor facility to bring some speech and
sounds requests and other thins to come to life, and upgrading NVDA's source
code to Python 3 for future-proofing work and making the code modern.
Cheers,
Joseph

Please explain what this Project Threshold is.

Dear NVDA community,

With the merging of speech refactor work into threshold branch,
Project Threshold has formally launched (expect a notice from NV
Access people regarding this).

An important notice for users of my add-ons: if you are using any of
my add-ons and plan to participate in Project Threshold, you MUST
install add-on updates destined for today. This is because the minimum
add-on API version for Threshold will be 2019.3, and also because
there will be changes in Threshold that will break many add-ons, including
some of mine.

The following add-ons will receive updates today:

* Add-on Updater
* Easy Table Navigator
* Enhanced Touch Gestures
* Golden Cursor (deep maintenance only)
* GoldWave
* ObjPad
* Object Location Tones
* Resource Monitor
* StationPlaylist (both stable only)
* Virtual Review
* Windows 10 App Essentials

Notes for some add-ons:

* Add-on Updater: this update will go out first; you must install this
add-on first. Also, if anyone is participating in Project Threshold
and installs this add-on, Add-on Updater will now install updates
for add-ons that does declare support for Threshold i.e. 2019.3-dev;
that is, if the last tested NVDA version is earlier than 2019.3,
Add-on Updater Threshold edition wont even attempt to install the
add-on update. This is done so you are protected from updates that
could break in Threshold.
* Golden Cursor: the upcoming version will be the last version to be
maintained by me.
* Resource Monitor: Psutil dependency will be updated to 5.6.2 to
resolve package generation bug caused by a missing file and to bring
updated features.
* StationPlaylist: Studio 5.20 or later will be required. Also,
support for Threshold will be added to 18.09.x-LTS in the next
release (scheduled for end of May).
* SystrayList: this will be the last version to be powered by Python
2, and consequently supporting old NVDA releases earlier than 2019.1.
* Windows 10 App Essentials: effective with todays build, end of
support countdown for Version 1803 (April 2018 Update/build 17134)
will be in effect. For now the add-on will install on Version 1803,
but a June snapshot will drop support for it; consequently, from
that future snapshot onwards, Version 1809 (October 2018
Update/build 17763) or later will be required as for add-on support
policy (supporting Insider build, latest, immediate past release,
with a given stable release supported for at least fifteen months).
Support for Version 1803 from this add-on will end in July.

Cheers,

Joseph
