Re: NVDA Suddenly Silent after latest Win10 Cumulative Update
As a follow-up note on my own experience, I had not realized that when you plug in the HDMI cable Windows automatically switches audio output to the device associated with HDMI (which, of course, it has to do) but that it sometimes does not automatically switch it back to speakers/headphones when the HDMI cable is withdrawn.
I stumbled upon this by accident when I used HDMI again after this last incident. If I go to the volume control in the system tray and open it, it was still showing the device as HDMI even after the cable was removed. All I had to do was hit the dropdown for the device in volume control and switch it back to speakers/headphones and all was well. This would not, however, be something simple for a screen reader user to do if the only output they had would be through the speakers/headphones, as you'd have no speech output to get you there. Rebooting without the HDMI cable inserted makes the audio automatically redirect to an available device, in this case the speakers/headphones. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy. ~ H.L. NVDA will not recognize my registered Eloquence

Configuration Files
Ed Marquette
In the list of configuration files that comes with NVDA, there is a configuration file called “Proofing.”
It does a great job in identifying various text and other attributes; however, if in Microsoft Word 2013, one uses automatic numbering created by custom-created styles (which I use daily), the paragraph numbers are omitted when reading; however, when reading with the “Normal” or “Default” configuration file activated, the paragraph numbers are read properly. I suppose the answer to my question is for me to create my own “proof reading” configuration file. Still, cutting off the automatically generated paragraph numbers seems odd. I hope that, some day, I can contribute answers to this list instead of just questions. Thanks for your assistance.

Hi all,
Basically what happened with me is that moment I insert the headset jack into the slot, the sound would stop and not come through the headset. I had to roll back to old windows and then start using NVDA through the headset. However, it was working through the system speakers when the headset was removed. Just sharing my experience after the update. -- Mohd. Ahtesham From India Using Windows 8.1 at home and windows 10 pro in office

Re: NVDA Not Reading Contacts in Outlook Distribution List

Hi Abbie, It is an issue we (and Microsoft) are aware of. FWIW, it also affects Narrator. My workarounds: Several very imperfect workarounds in the interim:
I haven't heard an ETA on a fix from Microsoft yet. Kind regards Quentin.

Re: Bug in Office 2010?
Quentin Christensen
Hi Adriani, Is it that the window is appearing but not responsive until you alt+tab away and back? Or that it takes a little while to appear and it just happens that by the time you alt+tab away and back it has appeared? This can happen if you have network drives that can take a few seconds to respond. If you press F12 it should also bring up the same dialog. If it is the save as dialog, that should be a relatively standard dialog. If you try opening it from elsewhere such as Notepad, does it respond instantly? Finally, if you set your NVDA log to "debug", it should show more information and may give some more insight into what is happening. Press NVDA+control+g to open the NVDA general settings and tab to "log level". You can access the log with NVDA+F1 and then copy it into an email. Kind regards Quentin.

NVDA Not Reading Contacts in Outlook Distribution List
Abbie Taylor <abbietaylor945@...>
When opening a distribution list in the latest version of Outlook that comes with Office 365, NVDA won’t read the list of recipients, not even with object navigation. System Access does read the list when I arrow through it, so if this is a bug on the part of NVDA, I would like to see it addressed in a future update. ,If not, perhaps someone who’s had success reading this list with NVDA can explain how it’s done. Thank you.

Hi,
I do not get this and I am using thw latest win10 app assentials with the latest NVDA both on my laptop and my imac. I did get this message some time ago but not now.
Th only difference is that my laptop is running win10 1809 with
all updates and the imac is running is 1903 release preview.
As a side note, I have NVDA set to announce currsor shape change, but this is not happening on either machine. I am wondering if this a change at some point in windows? Thanks.
