Well I think someone should report this, the biggest issue with disabling status is that nvda does not read the progress on incomming mail, so you don't know when things are coming or going only hear they are.

Max Audio Pro problem

Maria S

Hi all. I discovered a small but annoying problem with my computer. It is a Dell inspiron and it has the Max Pro Audio interface. So when you plug something audio related into the computer, it pops up a dialog asking what device you just plugged in. Jaws will read this list, but NVDA will not. Ideally, I would like to uninstall this little middleman of a program, but failing that, does anyone know of a way to get NVDA to read this dialog?

Thanks, Maria

Narrator definitely works on Windows 10 installation media. I haven't tried any of the recovery or repair tools that might be available within that environment, but I would expect them to be accessible these days.

Yeah to the poster on here with the issue with thunderbird 68.7, the statusbar is quite verbose, stating extra information at the end of the message.

Now in outlook I get a list of messages and I get unread or read at the start depending if they are, but right now the statuses say their bits after the fact with a pause.

So yeah the status bar is off.

Now if they change it so it says everything at the beginning or better yet get it so you can have things make noise if they are read or not then we can use sound cues which are less intrusive.

Re: google chrome version 81

Jason White

If I open a PDF file in Chrome 81, NVDA describes it as an "embedded object", then fails to read it. JAWS does the same, so I assume something changed in Chrome. On the other hand, VoiceOver for Mac with Chrome 81 reads PDF documents as well as ever.

Is this a change that NVDA and other screen readers will need to adapt to, or is it a Chrome bug? Can others reproduce it? Note that I'm not using an external PDF reader; this is entirely with the PDF processor included in Chrome. I can of course use Adobe Reader dC instead, although Chrome was until recently giving me better results on a range of PDF files.

MS-Word Template for Reporting NVDA Issues/Bugs in GitHub

As much as I'd like to be able to say, "Oh, it's simple," to actually enter the information requested in an issue/bug report in GitHub for NVDA, it really isn't because of what's asked for and that an edit-box doesn't make it easy to get yourself in the right place to enter specific pieces of information requested.    I believe it is critically important for the NVDA user community to actually report issues/bugs they have encountered, as that is the only way the development team can be made aware of them.  Of course, before you'd create a new issue you would want to search the open issues to see if someone "got there first" with what you intend to report, and just add a comment to the existing issue in that case.

But toward the end of making it much easier to report a bug to the folks at NVAccess I have taken their issue report format and created an MS-Word document template that takes you through, item by item, for the information requested.  I'd like to get some input from anyone who has an interest in using this by sharing my first swing at this.  I need to perfect the actual instructions I include in the template, that would allow the completely uninitiated to be able to use the form successfully then, after filling it out, unprotect it so that the entire report itself can be copied and pasted into the edit box in GitHub, already perfectly formatted.

Please contact me privately, using the Reply to Sender link that should be at the bottom of this message if you want to be one of my testers and to offer your input regarding what needs to be tweaked.  The only thing I'll ask, in advance, is that those who are already used to doing these reports need to understand that the prompts I give as you land in the various items are aimed at newbies.  Once you know what belongs there you can just shut NVDA up and start typing.

Once I get this to a state where I think it's ready for primetime I'll write up a formal set of step-by-step instructions on what you need to do in order to use it successfully.  Some of that is what will be worked out during "beta testing."  You will not actually be submitting any issues as part of this.  This exercise does not even require you to have a GitHub account.

Hi all,

I just updated Thunderbird, and all of a sudden, it is talking way too much. For instance, each time I delete a message, I hear about how that message was deleted and added to trash, or some such. There are other announcements as well, rendering the experience entirely too verbose and inefficient for getting through email. I'm using the latest nvda, and as far as I know, there haven't been changes to the mozilla apps enhancements add on which I have been using without incident until now. My t-bird version is 68.7.0; it just updated to that.

Mary,

This sounds very much like what was going on in version 70b3.  I just helped someone roll back from that to 68.6.0 and that was fine.  I am on the release channel and when I just checked I'm updating, and have been updated to 68.7.0.

While it would be odd for any major change in a dot level release, it could be some small change has triggered this, as accessibility testing is spotty at best (as a general rule).

I don't have time at the moment to fire up NVDA and listen, but if you can provide just a couple of the things being said that weren't before, I will do that later and see if I have them, too.

Windows 10 App Essentials 20.04.1 hotfix #addonrelease

Hi all,

Windows 10 App Essentials 20.04.1 hotfix is now available. This version resolves an issue reported by people using Word 365 where NVDA may announce odd things when you toggle font attributes (bold, font size, etc.), especially more so for non-English speakers. In addition, added support for Microsoft Solitaire Collection (NVDA (finally) can announce card decks).

As a reminder from 20.04 release, Windows 10 App Essentials will end support for Windows 10 Version 1903 (May 2020 Update) in July 2020 (a lot earlier for people using development snapshots).

Cheers,

Joseph
