No.  Pull requests are for coders.

The GitHub Issues Page for NVDA is:  https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues

Issues are broken into two distinct types: bug reports and feature requests, with a separate button for each category.

Always search in the issues page first using a couple of keywords specific to your feature request, as there may very well already be one.  If one exists, you can add a comment to it as well as read what has gone on with it since it was originally created.

In fact, a search I did just now using "scan mode" for open issues returned this in the list:  new functionality give nvda function similar to nvarrador's scan mode

There might be others, as I didn't keep on looking through the list.  You (any you) really do not want to create a new feature request if one already exists, as it just makes more work for those managing these to merge them together.  One request, regardless of how many people want it, should have only one feature request associated with it.  Add a comment if you feel the need.

Thanks! I'm not sure how I missed that add on because I get RSS alerts for any new thing NV Access puts out or the community add on puts out. Great add on! I still think the scan mode should be merged into NVDA core at some point. Is this add on registered with add on updater?

First, where do we submit feature requests, not bugs. Do we submit a pull request?

The feature I find using most often, ironically, isn't even an NVDA feature. I use Narrator's scan mode to actually get to inaccessible controls and otherwise for various reasons. I get it that we have object navigation and the review cursor and otherwise, but how hard would it be to replace object review with scan mode?

If not replace, what about just adding it in, period? That being said,

where do I go to make this suggestion? Do I file a pull request? I thought those were only for bugs.

Anyway of Getting NVDA 19.3.1 to Read Unlabeled Graphics?

Kenny

Hope everyone is doing well?

I'm a former user of JAWS. Find myself going back to use it for left mouse clicking on unlabeled graphics found on some application windows.

The NVDA review cursor only seems to read text displayed on the screen. Since the graphic isn't generating a separate nav object, I'm not able to use that NVDA reading function to see it either. Is there any way of getting NVDA to read the numeric window handle integer of an unlabeled graphic? Sort of how JAWS "Say All Graphics" mode does?

Just say something letting me know a graphic is there, so I can route the mouse p        ointer to that spot and left click on it.

Maybe there's an add-on available that gives NVDA that functionality?

Resource Monitor and Windows 10 App Essentials 20.04 #addonrelease

Hi all,

Resource Monitor and Windows 10 App Essentials 20.04 are now available. Some internal changes were made to Resource Monitor, including upgrading psutil dependency to 5.7.0. Windows 10 App Essentials 20.04 is a localization update ,and the temporary workaround for Word 365 issue (announcing “delete back word” when Control+Backspace is pressed) is now a permanent fix until NVDA itself includes it.

Important note for Windows 10 App Essentials users: support for Windows 10 Version 1903 (May 2019 Update) is slowly coming to a close – the add-on will end support for this feature update in July 2020. The good news is that Version 1909 (November 2019 Update) will be supported for a while, and you just need to edit at most four files to restore support for Version 1903 (please don’t do that unless you know what you are doing); this is because 1903 and 1909 are really the same Windows 10 release apart from visible changes.

As always, the new updates are available from community add-ons website and via Add-on Updater.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: problems with nvda

My understanding is that all add-ons shown on the NVDA Community Add-Ons Main Page are compatible with whatever the current version of NVDA happens to be at a given moment in time.

Quite a few of the ones on the Under Development Add-Ons Page are as well.

The Legacy Add-Ons Page includes ones only compatible with some former version or versions of NVDA.

Clipspeak is showing on the Community Add-Ons Main Page.

Hi

if i remember right there was a add on called clip speak which would do

some thing strange like that.

I would go to copy a file but it would not copy it or some times it

would  then i could paste it.

But have nto used it for a long time so that bug might of been fixed.

I am sure it was that add on? if you have it disabled  it then try and

copy a file etc and see if it does the job if yes properly a few times

then re enable the add on and see it it mucks up again..

Then if that is the case it is that add on.

I think it might of been based off the fake clipboard add on?

What setting, or why when having the Digit numbers AddOn installed, for instance when in the Windows10 Update screen giving me the update version, it says the numbers inwhole inmillions, when I have it set for that numbers starting from 5digits, it should read a number at a time? What special circumstances should be numbersbe in, for the AddON to work properly? Thanks for any info.

NVDA getting stuck in frames in Firefox

Greg Williams

Hi,

NVDA 2019.3 frequently gets stuck in frames in Firefox (I am using Firefox 67 currently). I seemed to be able to repeat it consistently on this page: https://www.koco.com/article/oklahoma-cowboy-museum-puts-security-guard-in-charge-of-social-media-during-closure-now-hes-going-viral/31925162?fbclid=IwAR2LVA2FN66nWA70ZclWMEaxhCHyyM3d4R4E3-uCtpljzi5raYJF_gbImz4

(any enjoyment from the actual page is a bonus). Sometimes refreshing content NVDA+f5 works, and sometimes NVDA+ctrl+space works, and sometimes I have to restart NVDA. Pressing tab moves through the elements on the page, but the arrow keys only read the frame content. I tried the new beta, but it also gets stuck. I am running Windows 10. Do other people experience this, or is there some quirk in my setup? Thanks.

With 64-bit Total Commander NVDA is not reporting which panel is left/right on pressing TAB. I don’t know if it is trained on the listbox window class name but if so, I can report that the 64-bit Total Commander is built with a different GUI toolkit and the listbox has the class name „LCLListBox“.

Why don't you report this on the TC forum? It would take the developer a few minutes to fix, and would save a lot of work figuring this out in an addon.
There's an addon for this somewhere, searching the archives for nvda-addons should find it.

Hi,

Running the latest versions of Microsoft teams, windows 10 professional and NVDA on a dell latitude series laptop. I am
finding that when I am using the Teams app, NVDA will go mostly unresponsive after about 10 minutes, pretty much without
fail. The only way to get things working again is to restart Teams. I say mostly because I can still use the object
navigation numpad keys to find my way around the UI, but this is slow and cumbersome. The tab key and all of the other
browse mode shortcut keys simply stop working. Has anybody else experienced this?

Lol Who the heck is still using Windows XP in 2020? Time to upgrade, folks. It is riddled with security holes and Microsoft droppde support for it years ago

On Mar 22, 2020, at 3:01 PM, Joseph Lee <joseph.lee22590@...> wrote:

Hello NVDA users and add-on developers,

First, I would like to reiterate how important it is that everyone listen to advice from reputable sources regarding COVID-19, including public health officials recommending folks to exercise social distancing for a while. Even if you do not feel sick, please help others by washing hands, practice social distancing, and monitor the situation regarding the pandemic and community spread. And since the NVDA community is a global movement, please support each other.

Onto the matter at hand: for several days I have received requests about NVDA add-ons and Windows XP support. Requests have included making add-ons compatible with Windows XP again, compatibility issues, and backporting newer NVDA bug fixes and features to users of NVDA 2017.3, the last version compatible with Windows XP.

At the moment there is no community guidance on support for Windows XP, with many people  asking others to upgrade to newer Windows releases. But as an individual add-on author and a contributor to NVDA screen reader project, I would like to take this time to make the following personal announcement:

Effective April 15, 2020, if you ask me to do one or more of the following for Windows XP users, the answer you will get is, “sorry, no more, period.” These include:

  • Making add-ons compatible with Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, and Server 2008
  • Fixing compatibility issues and non-working add-ons after you knowingly install newer add-on releases on NVDA 2017.3 or earlier
  • Backporting features and bug fixes from newer NVDA releases to NVDA 2017.3
  • Maintaining a long-term support version of NVDA for Windows XP/Server 2003/Vista/Server 2008 users

Most importantly, I will flatly say “no” if you ask me privately to ask NV Access and/or add-on developers about Windows XP support. Many features introduced in newer NVDA releases cannot be backported for various reasons, including risk of crashing NVDA (grammar error announcement, for example), incompatibility with Python 2 (broader Unicode support, for example), features that will not work properly with XP (screen curtain, for example), support for apps no longer recommended for wider use (outlook Express, for example), and broad changes that alters how add-ons work (speech refactor and multi-category settings dialog, for example). Several add-on authors have indicated reluctance to support XP, and in case of add-ons I’m either maintaining or have passed onto the community, none of them support NVDA 2019.2.1 or earlier, let alone Windows XP and friends.

My personal statement above will not be in effect until April so that you can help others going through COVID-19 and for my statement as an individual developer to sink in. Note that I’m not speaking on behalf of other developers – others have their own policies regarding support for Windows XP. NV Access does provide a download link for NVDA 2017.3, the last version compatible with Windows XP.

I know my statement is a huge blow to many of you. As much as I wanted folks to understand that end of support means end of support, and I understand that many of you cannot afford newer equipment and software releases (including moving to newer Windows releases), I felt it is time to make a bold statement and say “no” to Windows XP support. In the past, I did note on various NVDA forums that my add-ons will not and does not support Windows XP, but didn’t announce a statement like this then, hoping that folks will understand the reality at last. But alas, it is time to officially close the doors to Windows XP support from my end – once again, this is an individual developer saying this, not on behalf of the community at large, knowing that others will make statements on their own.

Thank you for understanding.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi

More information on SpeakOn based on questions on this thread and others.

SpeakOn home page is at:

http://www.speakon.org.uk/SpeakOn.html

You will find information on the media types its support, links to the docs and mailing list.

The tutorials produced by David Griffith recently found somewhere else on this thread are excellent.

Although the latest version was released in 2016 with one minor exception everything works and there are know known bugs.

SpeakOn supports English only and does not support Braille.

It does not support PDF either.

It is recommended by RNIB in the UK for reading their audio books in Daisy; SpeakOn supports Daisy 2 used mostly (I think) in Europe. It does not support Daisy 3 in the US.

Being developed in the UK it supports RNIB newspapers and magazines in test (epub) and audio.

It supports the epub format generally.

It does not support DRM as used mostly in the US

The NVDA SpeakOn add-on is not necessary to use it but makes sure that NVDA does not speakOn when SpeakOn has the focus; it does not speak much anyway and I shall release an updated version of this add-on soon to this list.

I am continually amazed it is never ever mentioned as an accessible option for reading ePub books.

Just to mention a few of its features.

Customisation of book reading voice including on the fly adjustment of reading volume and speed  of narration whilst reading a book through hotkeys. I know of no other book reader which does this.

Able to easily navigate through a book by chapter structure , headings, 50 lines, paragraph, sentence line word or character.

Ability to easily set markers in text of ePub books and copy and paste this text out of Speak On into a Word Processor.

Alternatively control a and control c will copy the chapter as text.

Ability to get single key press on book location and information.

Ability to resume reading from last position read on any book even if file location has changed.

Bookmark management  - ability to set and delete bookmarks.

It even has a virtual book creation function based on a search term which is incredibly  useful for study purposes.

Suppose you have a long academic book you need to search through to study a topic, you can in Speak On define a search term and Speak On will produce a smaller "virtual eBook” which will consists only of the chapters which contain the key phrase or terms in your defined search pattern. Again I know of no other accessible eBook reader which contains this feature.
