Joseph, thanks for all of your hard work. If you did the clock add-on please let me  know when the new version that is compatible comes back out I sure miss hearing it but know it is not a necessity to do any work so understand if it takes a while to get to.

As far as I know, there is no legal Dectalk add-on at least not one that sounds at all like what would be expected.  I don’t know if it is possible to purchase Dectalk as a stand alone synthesizer, such as a SAPI 5 synthesizer, but I’ve never heard of that either.
You may be able to get more information about the legal ability to purchase Dectalk with a search but I’ve been on this list since the rather early days of NVDA, and I think there would have been information on the list before this if there were a legal add-on, and a legal way to ;purchase Dectalk, at least at anything like a reasonable price, given the interest in Dectalk.
Years ago, someone who worked with Dectalk provided a legal version of Dectalk but it was evidently very old and it sounded very different than the Dectalk people expect.

Speaking of addons, is there some easier process for review or something? Because on the off chance that it worked, I changed minimum and last tested versions to 2021.1 for the Extended Winamp addon, copied the whole thing into my addons folder, and it works. So 2021.1 didn't break any compatibility, it just needs two changes in manifest.ini and it works. It took me less than a minute. There's no reason to have to wait for the original developer to do that kind of thing, is there?

Well you can try to modify the strings in manifest to see if it will even run.

I have done this with some of the addons I have that don't work and thhey run, now I havn't tested all of them to see if they actually run but the winamp one appears to, and the interactive fiction one appears to also.

Re: RH Voice?

Blake Roberts <BEarlRoberts@...>

Roger,
I suggest contacting the NVDA add-on developer to determine if an updated add-on is being created for NVDA 2021.1 compatibility. As a workaround, you could download/use the SAPI5 version of RHVoice and the voices if you do not require portable NVDA. The NVDA and SAPI5 versions are both available for download at the link which Alexander provided.

If you decide to install RHVoice binary and SAPI5 version of RH voices, switch to SAPI5 in the select synthesizer dialog of NVDA. I myself have installed/use the SAPI5 version of RH Voice.

In NVDA, most Microsoft OneCore voices are the same voice for me.

John Isige

Hi all.

So I've got all of the extra English OneCore voices installed, so Richard, Linda, James, that kind of thing. For some reason, if I set NVDA to use the OneCore voices and change voices, all of them are David, except for Zira and Mark. I'm pretty sure this worked at one point, but it's obviously broken now. I've tried restarting with addons disabled, and I still have the same issue.

I know the voices are installed properly because if I go into settings/time & language/speech, the voices show up there and preview as themselves. Additionally, if I run Narrator, I can change to each voice in the list and it's actually the correct voice. Anybody have any ideas? It's not vitally important that I get this working or anything, I mostly use Code Factory's SAPI 5 Eloquence, but it's pretty strange, and I like to fix those kinds of things if I can.

Hello

If you are talking about running Windows on an M1  mac, VMware fusion has this update on their blog:  https://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2021/04/fusion-on-apple-silicon-progress-update.html

As others have mentioned, Boot Camp is going bye-bye, so your only option in the long run is going to be to use a virtual machine. I am currently running VMware fusion, with NVDA and DragonDictate on a 2018 Mac mini and it works okay, but mind you that it takes a lot of processing power. It looks like it is going to be a little while before VMware fusion can run on an M1 mac.

Hello. If your employer has shipped you the new mac, you won’t be able to run NVDA on the new macs with the m1 chip as you can’t run windows on the new mac. However, the mac uses Voiceover as its built in screen reader, and the concepts between mac and windows are the same. That is, the mac has a desktop, but the differences is that with applications on the mac, you use the app store to download mac apps and you can of course download mac apps from the internet, but the thing is you don’t have a start menu but you have a menu bar, and your applications go in a folder called applications and like on windows you can put short cuts on the desktop. If you want to learn how to use the mac with speech, here is a user guide that’ll show you how to use the screen reader on the mac.

Voiceover User Guide for Mac - Apple Support

Also, applications don’t install on the mac, meaning, you just run the application from the desktop or applications folder and away you go. Also, the apple macs and iPhones are designed to work together, and the thing is that there is no freezing of programs on the mac, and if applications on the mac happens to enter an unresponsive state, Voice Over will not crash. Rather, it’ll say, “busy.”

Hi,

I consulted Google before sending this but I only came across this situation for NVDA testing purposes so I don’t want to presume that information also applies to the end user experience. I accepted a new developer job and found out today my new employer is shipping me a MacBook Pro as my work computer. This was surprising considering we’ll be developing in C#.Net in Visual Studio, an IDE for which I do not believe there is even a Mac version at this time. Sounds like we’ll be using BootCamp or something similar. I have zero experience with Macs and am terrified this is going to be a huge and unexpected learning curve that will slow down my onboarding. Anyway, is it possible to use NVDA in a Windows mode of Mac and does it work just like on a real PC? One of those articles I skimmed mentioned that the Mac doesn’t have an Insert key, the default NVDA key and that there might be some other keyboard discrepancies, but I would plan on just connecting an external Windows-style keyboard anyway, provided that will work. Any reassurance, tips or guidance on this would be hugely appreciated. I’ve already resigned from my current company and will be starting the new job in two weeks so I’m kind of freaking out right now, Ha.

Thank you,

Luke

It seems to me uneasy to contact some developer.

Dne 12.07.2021 v 14:43 Quentin Christensen napsal(a):

Hi Jarek,

There is a page on the add-ons site listing the status of various add-ons for NVDA 2021.1: https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/nvdacompat.en.html <https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/nvdacompat.en.html>

I can see ClipSpeak listed there as not yet compatible - it might be worth double checking with the developer of that add-on as to where it is at.  I'm not sure about total commander.

Note that as new versions of add-ons are released, you will need to find them and download them manually - that process is not automated, although there is an "add-on updater" add-on which does do this, and which you can also find on the add-ons site: https://addons.nvda-project.org/index.en.html <https://addons.nvda-project.org/index.en.html>

Kind regards

Hello everybodi,

I have downloaded a new version of Nvda. I have found out, that some
addons are uncompatible with the version of Nvda 21.1.

I would like to know, whether will able to download the addons, for
example Clipspeak and Total Commander.
