Hello!

Besides the NVDA add-on for Eloquence, Code Factory also have a SAPI5
version...

Both are legal ways of using Eloquence with our prefered screen reader,
NVDA!

I wish I would have caught the thread which started yesterday earlier,
but unfortunately, I've been sick. I want to provide a bit of guidance
as to what is and is not allowed in respect of discussing Eloquence and
add-ons in general.

Eloquence was a banned topic on the NVDA list for a long time because
there was no legal way to use it. Some add-ons were and continue to be
floating around, but these add-ons are mostly illegal. Codefactory
released an add-on for Eloquence. Once this version of Eloquence became
available, the idea of banning eloquence as a discussion topic relaxed a
bit. So, moving forward, Eloquence is not to be discussed unless the
Eloquence which is being discussed is the one by codefactory. If anyone
knows of a legal way to use Eloquence apart from this add-on, which is
not free and is available for purchase, please write to
nvda+owner@nvda.groups.io <mailto:nvda%2Bowner@nvda.groups.io> and let
us know. Any discussion of any free method for using Eloquence, or any
free eloquence add-on, or any method of circumventing paying for the
legitimate add-on is prohibited and will be enforced stringently and
without warnings. Let this message be your warning. Any topic about
eloquence free add-ons will not be permitted on list by new users. Any
user who has been around this list posting about free methods for using
Eloquence will be placed on no-post status for a week, and subsequently
perminently or unless the list owners choose to lift the ban. Any topic
having to do with free eloquence will be immediately closed. Any person
responding to a thread about free eloquence, particularly if those
messages contain links to free eloquence will face the same consequence
as the individual who initiates discussion of this illegal add-on.

Second, users wishing to download add-ons are highly encouraged to visit
the NVDA add-on site. NVDA really should have a way of signing add-ons
that are legitimate, and informing users of ones which are not, but not
sure this is even possible. In any case, this list will deal with
add-ons which are posted on the NVDA add-ons page, and users are
encouraged highly to not download add-ons from 3rd-party sites. There
are a number of sites which host illegal versions of add-ons, and these
are prohibited from being discussed on list. This thread is not just
about Eloquence, it is about any add-on which is illegal, or offers a
free way to use a paid version of an add-on, such as a voice synth.

If you have questions, please write to the NVDA owner address, and I
will do my best to clarify. If you disagree, please do write to the NVDA
owner address.

Here is an article explaining several methods for inserting equations into
Microsoft Word documents. There is one for keyboard only input.

https://www.wikihow.com/Insert-Equations-in-Microsoft-Word

Microsoft supports a text (Unicode) method for inserting equations, called
the linear format, as referenced in the following article.

https://www.unicode.org/notes/tn28/tn28-2.html

Using the two above references, I was able to successfully create required
complex equations in several papers that I wrote last year.

Just to clarify free version of MathType is sufficient if you want to read

Re: Need help getting NVDA to work with Android Studio Application

Jaffar Sidek

Hi.  NVDA is about the best when it comes to providing access with Android Studio.  I have had resonable success in using them for my development work as well as for my own Android and Java projects when using both application and screen reader in tandem, even if NVDA itself is running on 32bit and the Android studio app on my 64bit machine runs on 64 bit as well.  So after you install Android Studio, at the wilcom page, choose configuration, then, choose Appearance and behavior, Arrow down once to Appearance.  Tab to the checkBox that says "Accessibility Panel: Support Screen Readers, Requires Restart".  By default, that CheckBox is Unchecked.  Press the space bar to check it, then tab to the OK button and press enter or space on it.  Now just exit Android Studio and your changes will take effect once you restart the app.  I am not saying the solution is guaranteed to be a hundred percent success, but most tasks you would expect of the Android IDE in question will work satisfactorily enough once you get NVDA going and a few more configuration tweaks will enhance your working experience with it.  Give it a go, and give me a shout if I can be of any help.  Cheers!

Re: the Screen Curtain NVDA addon

hurrikennyandopo ...

Hi

If you are interested this tutorial will point you in the right directions.

It is a rough draft so there may be spelling mistakes etc etc You will need the latest alfa which has it in but will come out in the next stable release of nvda.

when it is tidied up it will then go onto my website at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net

Rough draft below.

* screen curtain add on now in NVDA 2019.3

From NVDA 2019.3 the screen curtain add on is now intergrated into  NVDA 2019.3
If you want to use this feature so it blacks out your screen so no one can see what you are doing you can asign a gesture to enable it or disable it in NVDA. When NVDA 2019.3 is running press the NVDA key + letter N, when the preferences menu comes up locate the settings menu then the input gestures menu then press the enter key. When the next screen comes up arrow down to the vision branch then arrow right until you hear NvDA say Toggles the state of the screen curtain, either by making the screen black or SHOWING the contents of the screen. If pressed to enable once, the screen curtain is enabled until you restart NVDA. If pressed tree times, it is enabled until you disable it.
Next tab to the add button then press the enter key you will then be given some options. It will then ask you to enter a gesture. for example ALT key + S. A context menu will come up asking you either to add it to the desk top lay out or all layouts. Press the enter key on the option you want then tab to the ok button then press the enter key. Your gesture has now been asigned. When you go to enble it with your short cut key it will say tempory screen curtain enabled to your next restart.  If you do it again it will tell you the screen curtain has been disabled.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have experienced some significant limitations using NVDA in Skype.  I am using the current version of both programs.  When I go into Skype, the NVDA "find" command of insert-control-f no longer works at all.  Thus, I cannot quickly find a contact in my list with the "find" command as I did previously.  Also, certain Skype shortcut keys no longer work.  For example, I cannot use control-shift-p to make a phone call to a contact once I highlight the name.  To accomplish these tasks, I now must arrow up and down in my contact list to locate a contact, and then I must press Enter on the contact and tab over to "make an audio call" in order to call the contact.  I have tried maximizing the screen, reloading NVDA when I get into Skype, and a few other things, but nothing solves the problem.  Any ideas on what is going on here?
