The doc.new approach does not require you to be in Google Docs before invoking it. I"m glad it works in Firefox as well. Christopher Bartlett

I think this works only in chrome, but putting doc.new in the address field will open a google doc. This also works with sheets.new, slides.new as well. Christopher Bartlett
