What happens if you just click on the link that you are attempting to download? Perhaps it is a show notes page that then has a link to the multi-media file. Another possibility is that the link you aare clicking on starts a HTML5 player for the podcast.
Usually in the case of an HTML5 player there will also be a download link.

Some sites won't let you save the file using save
target as. Save target as is described by some people as the way to save
everything. It's not. You are saving the actual link, the way that
site is organized. Press enter on the play link and let it start to play
in whatever browser you are using, if you are using Firefox or Chrome.
Then, when play begins, use the command control s to open a save dialog.
Use that dialog to save the audio file. I'm not sure that will work in
Internet Explorer but if you are using Internet Explorer, I think it will either
open the save dialog or it will open Windows Media Player or some other
program. You can tell us what happens and we might be able to tell you how
to save the file from the player.

Either your mouse pointer is not actually in the right position to activate the link (if you are using right click, this may well be the case), or, as has already been said, the link takes to you to a page, and isn’t actually an mp3 download. Hit enter and see what happens. I personally much prefer the way Firefox handles downloads….

Some sites actively prohibit downloading of their content. I've noticed this for copyright material, where you can listen but not store locally. there are of course ways around many of these but I'd be a bit worried about mentioning any here except the obvious one of virtunual recorder.

There could be many reasons apart from copyright, it may well be that the files are not in the same place all the time and the html inteermediary page then redirects the user to the right place. Please provide full links. You can go to the
page you are having a problem with, in this case the page where the link is you
are trying to follow, copy the address to the clipboard from the address bar,
then paste it into the message. That way, people can go to the same page
immediately.
The way you are doing it now, people have to verify
the address of the site with an Internet search, go to the home page, then look
for and go to what they think is the page you are having a problem with.

I looked at the cite. First, never assume
that an audio link leads directly to the audio when you try save target and it
doesn't work. If you follow the link from the home page that says podcast,
you are taken to a different web page from which you listen to the
podcast. Not everything that calls itself a podcast can be
downloaded. When you used save target as, you were saving the link to the
page you need to go to. Once you get there, you will see something, but I
don't know just what because it may depend on the browser and screen-reader
being used. The combination of NVDA and Firefox shows, partway down the
page, a line that says, web player and below that, a line that says
application.
Don't down arrow past the line that says web
player. Start tabbing. You will see a play button. Press enter
on it. The podcast will start to play. Using the space bar on the
button won't work. Never assume how things are laid out on web
pages. If something doesn't work and there is a link to follow, such as in
this case to the podcast, follow it and see what happens. Save target as
works at times and it doesn't at other times.

I'm not giving you a hard time. I'm going to
start pointing this out when I see people do this. I hope it will make not
just this list more efficient, but any other lists people who see these messages
are on less cluttered as well.
Please don't send thank you messages to everyone
who responds. Thank people in advance in the original message with a
general statement such as, thanks in advance for any help or thanks in advance
for any information. Or, if you wish, if you send a final message saying
that the problem has been solved, you can thank people in that message.
This is standard e-mail etiquette. If everyone thanked everyone, the list,
and any such list, would be unusable. Two thirds of messages would be
thank you messages.

What I described about how to listen on this site
isn't standard. How this site works in that respect might be new to a lot
of people, even if they use the Internet regulartly.
I didn't know how to work with the player until I
experimented. I pressed enter on the word application but nothing
happpened. I pressed enter on the word web in the phrase web
player but nothing happened. I then tried tabbing instead of down
arrowing and I found the buttons I discussed. I tried various things
without having any idea if any would work. This approach
did.
