Focused mode
Caleb Neyenhuis
Hi guys
If I leave sleep mode on and exit a Application that turns focus mode on is there a way to prevent focus mode from turning on so I don’t have to worry about turning sleep mode off |

I am not sure I understand. What is the behavior you are expecting. What it sounds like to me, is that you are enabling sleep mode which essentially disables all NVDA interactions for that application unless I am completely mistaken. But you are expecting that browse mode should still work while NVDA is sleeping. Are you perhaps wanting to turn off voice output but continue working with Braille Or perhaps you are doing accessibility testing in which case you should listen to the great tutorial DeQueue created on using NVDA to test accessibility with NVDA that is available on YouTube.

Exit sleep mode in what program? Are you
describing what happens when you use sleep in a browser and turn it off when in
the browser? I don't know why that is but just pressing escape should
return you to browse mode. I didn't understand exactly what you were
asking in your first question but if escape works, it's probably the easiest way
to deal with the problem.

Also, what program are you entering and leaving
sleep mode in and what version of NVDA are you using? On further thought,
you may be saying you are stuck in forms mode. That may be the problem
that was discussed here perhaps two or three months ago where, if you shut down
NVDA while a browser is opened, then run it again, you will be stuck in forms
mode unless you close and open the browser again. My recollection is that
this problem was corrected in a recent update of NVDA.

But most programs don't use browse mode and forms
mode. Are you saying that if you are in Wordpad, for example, this
happens? If you are in a browser or an e-mail program, reading mail as
HTML, or in Adobe Reader, I can see that this might happen. But are you
saying it happens in other programs that don't use browse and forms
mode?

I tested this out briefly on my Windows 7 machine with NVDA 2018.1
At this point my firefox returned to focus and browse mode was still enabled.
So, sorry I can’t reproduce with the guidance provided.

Jonathan

If you don’t want focus mode then turn off automatic focus mode under browse mode settings in NVDA That will fix it 😃
