NVDA and Skype

Pascal Lambert

Hi All,
I just installed Skype and when I tried to set up the audio, my Jay Lab speakers went silent producing a humming sound. I am new to using Skype and I would appreciate any suggestion and/or feedback. Is there a more accessible version of Skype? Is there a tutorial for using Skype with NVDA?
Many thanks
Blessings
Pascal

Hi,

Tell your friend that he/she, has to install the correct driver for FOCUS40, after the installation the Focus Braille display can appear in the list of the Braille displays. Then, to choose it and go on.
I've some friends here that work with NVDA and FOCUS40 and it works fine for them.

Good luck

Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before and I'm rehashing it, but
a friend of mine was curious if NVDA worked with the Focus40? Does it
bring up a list of displays to choose from and how well does it work
with Braille displays if anyone here has this knowledge, I'd really
appreciate info for my friend? Thanks and again, sorry for bringing
this up again.

Well that is a strange one. Does this mean all sounds are muted all the time?

I used to find it annoying that Skype took control of inputs and outputs every time I ran it and then forgot to put stuff back when you had finished. As I mostly use line level this was really annoying.
I seldom use Skype these days. many people I know tend to use their mobile for Skype now to leave their desktop unpoluted, so to speak!

Id you check your communications properties? I had that problem until I set it to none.

1. Hot windows b
2. Go to speaker and hit the context key
3. Control tab to communications
4. Set the radio button to none and hit ok.

Take care

I agree, while some business was on skype I don't need it for business, and while you can still get classic, and yes while I can simply use it to record a lot of people in the family are using whatsapp now.

The amount of time I actually need a digital phone as such has dropped and has been like that for 2 or 3 years now.

Local and mobile phones are the way for me now.

If a skype phone ever gets accessible enough to use then maybe I use it.

But to be honest, skype7 will be my version till it doesn't work,

Sadly just like in xp, as far as I care skype is crap not because it is but the way ms has gone about it is.

I am happy classic is still up, thanks for that, but I'd prefer if ms just never updated skype classic ever again and left us to our own devices.

Heck, even if they took all sponsorship, adds, extras like facebook and limited it to ms account only, there are others that agree with me online.

Because of what has happened, I simply have had to shift my business  to other platforms, luckily the stuff that should have gone on skype never happened, and to be honest, if skype really does start going to shut down, I will simply clear my contacts for skype, and simply never sign on again ever.

Sadly, ms has eroded their ms account so much, skype, music, books, the potential and apps was enourmous.

The app thing has never worked for me as such skype is well usage dropped and now the apps and such are hmmm, they have dropped music.

Bar onedrive and office 360 which still may work there is like almost no reason to even bother with ms anything.

Hopefully there will be a reason to use win10, actually the only real reason for me is I have knfb reader on my store account, thats about it though.

And its debaitable if I even need that.

I will be getting another newer system sooner or later, and I was thinking of a windows one a new one, but I know there are still 6th gen systems about.

Those can run win7 and I just happen to have a copy of win7 about, I am seriously not impressed, true Ionly have 3-5 years left but on the other hand, if my system suddenly goes, in the short term my plan will to get another win7 or xp system, long term, I don't know where I will go, I need a windows system at least for games, the rest I will have to decide.

Hi Sarah,

Pardon my ignorance.  What do you mean by “hot Window B”?

When I type “window-B” within Skype it takes me back to the desktop tray.

Please clarify.

Very much appreciated.

Windows b is the notification area. I forgot what  I said but I think I said hit windows b, navigate right once, then hit s until you find   speakers, now hit the applications key and hit s for wound. Control tab to communications and choose the do nothing  radio button. I think that’s what I said, I hope?

Subject: [nvda] NVDA and Skype

Hi All,
I just installed Skype and when I tried to set up the audio, my Jay Lab speakers went silent producing a humming sound.  I am new to using Skype and I would appreciate any suggestion and/or feedback.  Is there a more accessible version of Skype?  Is there a tutorial for using Skype with NVDA?
Many thanks
Blessings
Pascal

In the UserGuide is the link to download the Focus driver from Freedom Scientific pages...

Windows b is the notification area. I forgot what  I said but I think I said hit windows b, navigate right once, then hit s until you find   speakers, now hit the applications key and hit s for wound. Control tab to communications and choose the do nothing  radio button. I think that’s what I said, I hope?

Hi Sarah,

Pardon my ignorance.  What do you mean by “hot Window B”?

When I type “window-B” within Skype it takes me back to the desktop tray.

Please clarify.

Very much appreciated.

Id you check your communications properties? I had that problem until I set it to none.

1. Hot windows b

2. Go to speaker and hit the context key

3. Control tab to communications

4. Set the radio button to none and hit ok.

Take care

Well that is a strange one. Does this mean all sounds are muted all the time?

I used to find it annoying that Skype took control of inputs and outputs every time I ran it and then forgot to put stuff back when you had finished. As I mostly use line level this was really annoying.
I seldom use Skype these days. many people I know tend to use their mobile for Skype now to leave their desktop unpoluted, so to speak!
