Hello list, So, I upgraded Skype for desktop on a laptop to try to get used to it before MS kills Skype classic in September. I came across some short cut keys from: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12025/what-are-hotkeys-and-how-do-i-use-them-in-skype What I’m not finding is the hotkey to answer an incoming call. I can’t believe that there isn’t one for such a basic function, but it’s not listed in the table. Start a call, hang up, mute, that’s all fine, but nothing for answering a call. Am I missing something or is this really not included as a shortcut key? Thanks, Cristobal

I guess that’s a solution, but that’s not exactly encouraging. You figure for such an essential command, there would be a hotkey for it that would work outside of the program itself. I mean it already existed in older versions (alt plus pg-up). I’m going to have to try tomorrow with it on my laptop. I haven’t updated my main desktop where I do nearly all of my calls so we’ll see.

Alt page up is the default keyboard shortcut to answer phone calls. However, you need to enable hot keys in Skype options in order to use it, as this isn't generally checked by default.

Hi
I have just been looking at skype 8 and how it is setup.
I will put together a tutorial later on today or tomorrow.
I did find the section for answering calls in skype 8 it is under your profile then calling and then answer incoming calls. You need to use alt key + letter F then go down the menus to get tto those other sections.

All alt plus F gets me in Skype 8.25 for desktop is: New Group... Ctrl+G New Chat... Ctrl+N New Call... View profile... Sign Out Quit Ctrl+Q
There are the applications settings, audio/video, help and feedback options if pressing spacebar on more options, but even if you click on the audio/video, there’s nothing about answering or handling phone calls. Just the microphone and speakrs stuff. Odd that no one’s really got a definitive answer to this or has dealt with this scenario of having to answer a phone call in Skype. Having to locate an accept button to click on it instead of invoking a simple hotkey that would work in any window you may find yourself in would be a major step backwards. Forget about accessibility, but simpl functionality in general. I hope this isnt’ the case and I’m just overlooking something.

Hi
Which version are you using?
My computer which is running windows 10 has the windows 10 app on it also the latest skype 8 desk top app which i am writing a tutorial for. In the desk top version skype 8 it has the options there to accept them automatically under calling they just have
to be checked.
Just to confuse you as well there is a web version which is very much like skype 8

Yes, to be honest web apps and mobile cloud services are the future.
Now thats not necessarily a bad thing its just that us humans will milk it for all its worth, 1 ring for them all, etc.
The issue is especially for us old timers things don't always fit, and worse depending on what you have they may not fit at all.
Narator, maybe, but for reasons everyone is aware of even though ms says its the best, I still don't trust it.
If anything nvda is in a good position to go completely web as long as controls and menus work right.
Followed by jaws as a second.
Dolphin are trying but they are even slower than vfo.

Hi Brian
The skype 8 program was downloaded from skype.com and i grabbed the skype 8 desk top version to see what it was like.
So it replaced my version 7.4 of skype.
The new version is more web based it lookes like and is quite easy to navigate etc. you just need to work out where stuff appears when you open stuff.
The tutorial for the basics is almost finished. There might be some other stuff i might add to it?
I still have the skype app on my windows 10 machine that is the one where you do more tabbing etc.
It is more like the other apps on Windows 8 and 10.
The web version of skype is done through your browser and is web based so it is pretty much like the skype 8 desk top program.
It is meant to work with a few different browsers it is like in a web page only it is a program like the skype 8 desk top program.
The skype 8 desk top program i might even just do a audio over view of what it is like where to go in the program to find different sections like accepting calls automatically etc along the lines of the tutorial i am writing up.
So have i confused a few people now?

I'd like the tutorial for the win10 app myself to.
While all the menus are the issue, if we knew all the shortcuts I could still use it, my issue ofcause access wize is even in skype 7 I rarely needed to really use all of it.
The phone, the contacts, the chat feature and reading history.
Happy it can be saved though I always found that part of skype 7 a real chore, especially if you got into the add pain then all your access keys never worked till you pulled out of it.
If its a true web app maybe it won't be as bad.

Feel free to subscribe to the skype english list where the owner of some scripts and add ons lives, or rather is subscribed. Lol!
As for your not being able to answer a call tab to the answer button and whack it. I’ve ben doing this for years now rather than rely on keystrokes. I personally at least as far as skype hate them. I feel I can know the interface a lot better by tabbing rather than key strokes which might not work, or they might depending on the day I’m having.

As I mentioned, I am using Skype for desktop. Hi Which version are you using? My computer which is running windows 10 has the windows 10 app on it also the latest skype 8 desk top app which i am writing a tutorial for. In the desk top version skype 8 it has the options there to accept them automatically under calling they just have to be checked. Just to confuse you as well there is a web version which is very much like skype 8 Gene nz On 7/18/2018 12:34 PM, Cristóbal wrote: I guess that’s a solution, but that’s not exactly encouraging. SO anyway, to answer my own question since it seems no one had the answer. The actual command to answer an incoming call with Skype 8.x desktop is control plus shift plus P. This was listed in the link I provided as the command to start a call. Still though, it seems you have to be in the Skype window to execute any of these commands. Be it answer, hang up, mute, etc. This is a rather needless annoyance since before, the hotkeys were universal no matter where you may have been in the machine. It may seem like a minor thing, but I often work in different virtual desktops with lots of programs and windows open at the same time and having to scramble to get to the right window/desktop and then perform the action when before a simple alt plus pg up or pg down worked fine comes off as a pointless step backwards.

Hi
The following link will give a idea of what skype 8 is like. it can be downloaded from the following drop box link at
https://www.dropbox.com/s/sk846qaagc7yk1b/using%20skype%208%20the%20basics%20.MP3?dl=0
It covers the basics where to look to setup your mic etc and also have it automatically answer your calls etc.
It does not show how to hang up as i had no one to do it with but it can be found under the list where you call that person along with file sharing etc which is not covered or going all the way down the list. of things you can do.
It covers making a call and also deleting a contact. What is not covered as it if covered will be far longer.
There is also a written tutorial going up which should cover more but not group chats of yet.
The voice that was used was david a windows one core voice is it understandable enough?
I usually like using Gene which is a E speak voice as it is clear.
I might use it on the website or might even re record it with more in it?
In the written tutorial etc it will say like quick navigation keys etc that you can use with nvda.
