Thunderbird columns with object navigation

David Mellor

Hi group,
I came across this post about changing the order of mail message columns in
Thunderbird.
https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topic/colum_headers_in_thunderbird/3281531?p=,
,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,0,,20,0,780,3281531
Unfortunately I can't find the column headers anywhere on Thunderbird 60.0
using object navigation. I can move around the message list and folder list
and I've been able to drag and drop folders around using the same method.

Has anyone had any luck with accessing the message column headers with
recent Thunderbird versions please?

Very many thanks,
David

Gene

There is an add on, I don't recall if it is a Thunderbird or an NVDA add on that makes changing the order much easier.  I don't know if it works with new versions, but it might save you time and trouble to wait for more information from the list about it.

It is a NVDA addon, and with my version of Thunderbird, 52.9.1 (32 bits) still works to manage coluns...

Hi,
Can you tell me where I find this addon?
I know how to move Thunderbird Columns but with an addon it'll be easier, I'm sure.

Give Mozilla App Enhancements a try. It will mitigate your issue, but, not
answer your question.

I use Outlook 2003. I have just started exploring TB 60.0, the latest
version.
Two add-ons that sound promising are Obj nav and Mozilla Apps Extender

Other observations, areas for me to explore and wishes:
Control over where Thunderbird starts, eg, Inbox
Confusion over where Thunderbird is leave the cursor in the message list
when a folder is first opened
Warning about loading remote content in messages is quite disruptive
I would like to close messages with escape. There is an add-on for that.
how to jump to messages in large lists like mail lists quickly by typing the
first few characters of the name.
Same for selecting folders
The move option on the message list apps key menu is not toward the bottom
of he list as with Outlook so it takes much longer to navigate to.
No alt text for some fields in account setup, didn't really matter.
Speech is a bit verbose when starting a new message with cntl-n
Will explore whether I can have a new email arrived tone only when something
I am likely to be interested in appears in the inbox
I will explore whether I can place interesting threads from mailing lists in
other folders in my Inbox, mixing regular and threaded modes in the same
display. I doubt it.

David,
You can adjust it as you like just using the object navigation and some mouse clicks simulations.
There's an article that explain how it works but as I am a brazilian guy, it's 100% in Brazilian Portuguese.
At this point if anyone knows (and can) help with this question it'll be nice.

I'm happy with the technique, I just can't find the column headers.
I know they're there because they are announced by NVDA-b to read the whole
screen contents.
I've been wondering round and round the object hierarchy a few times.
The add-ons will let me sort it out. No worries.
