Using NVDA In Safe Mode
Earle Zwicker
Just wondering how people are getting NVDA to work in safe mode in latest Windows 10? I've tried installing the activate sound registry patch, but got an error message saying it couldn't be installed because I didn't have permission or some registry keys were active. I have an administrator account so permissions isn't the issue. If anyone can give me some guidance on how to get this to work, I'd really appreciate it.

Why do you need NVDA to work in safe ode when Narrator will do that for you? There is a slight learning curve, but, very much worth it.

When I booted into safe mode, I tried to bring up narrator in the usual way. It showed up on the screen, but there was no sound. I had a sighted person around at the time for testing purposes. So I tried to install the registry patch, but couldn't get it to install.

Do you have any sort of USB sound device with an output? For instance, I have a Yeti microphone which also has a headphone jack on it. Narrator defaults its output to that, at least it did when I had to reload Windows, I haven't messed with the new safe mode stuff yet.

Thanks John. I'll give that a shot. Just thought someone might have an idea as to why I couldn't get the registry patch to install.

I was under the impression that windows 10 did not need the patch since rudimentary audio drivers were loaded just as in start with network. I have patched windows 7 successfully recently I had to use a bit of turning off uac and use the admin account to install the patch, but as you say it might be more complicated for 10, but if its not required....
