NVDA 2018.3

Hi quentin

While I was doing the installation of NVDA 2018.3 it failed. Could you please tell me from where I can get it to install it?

A couple of things to check first:

- Have you restarted the computer after updating NVDA?  If not, please try that first.

- Try restarting NVDA with addons disabled and see if the Firefox issues recur. - If so, check for latest versions of all your add-ons, and failing that, please let us know which is being problematic / which you have enabled.

- Double check that you can in fact start firefox without NVDA 2018.3 running (either with an older version of NVDA or Narrator).

- If you can get Firefox to start (perhaps with an older version of NVDA), if you go to the address bar and type:

 

about:crashes

 

If you could get me the one of the latest crash IDs (the seemingly random string of characters), I can get Mozilla to look into it.

Hi Anthony,

Did it fail with an error or because the file was corrupt (didn't download properly)?

You can redownload it from: https://www.nvaccess.org/download/ (select "Skip donation this time" unless you want to make a donation, and you don't need to enter an email address).

Otherwise, a couple of reasons it might start installing and then fail:
- Windows displays a User Account Control dialog - a dialog that appears in front of everything else which you need to respond to by pressing "Yes" for the install to continue - sometimes it appears behind everything else and you need to alt+tab to it.  If you don't respond within 30 seconds or so, it will automatically fail.

- If you have "Controlled Folder Access" turned on in Windows 10, it will install, but it will fail to create the desktop shortcut and so show a failure error.

Otherwise, if you keep encountering it, if you could give me more information, I'd be interested in trying to get to the bottom of it.

Hi Anthony,

What mistake did you do during the installation?

If you did something like told it to install to a write only drive like a CD drive, you should simply be able to re-run the installer and install correctly.

I may have misunderstood you though.
