hi, below is what i have on word press

WordPress is accessible at the core level to the WCAG
20AA standard.

For some free materials on using WordPress w/a screenreader, you may
wish to check out:
www.wp4newbs.com
Specifically, check out the post called WordPress for Newbies
Materials Are Now Free! under the 'recent posts' section to get
passwords, etc, in order to open the lesson files.

let me no if there is more on word press

Kerryn, you should really inquire what your classmates are using to do
this, but I recommend downloading Xampp. You should download the .zip
version, as the .exe instaler is not accessible. Here is a direct
link.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/XAMPP%20Windows/7.2.10/xampp-win32-7.2.10-0-VC15.zip/download

You can use Wordpress very well. XAMPP (not Z, it is an X letter) is for developing environments, not for productive environments recommended.

Jackie

Kerryn, you cannot just download WordPress to your computer & install
it as you can w/most standard programs. It has to run on a webserver,
& it has to be able to connect to a database in order to do so. Xampp
provides both the webserver, as well as the PHP & MySQL frameworks
WordPress uses. So you've got to install Xampp first, create a
database for WordPress to use, & then install WordPress using those
database credentials.

How are they asking you to set up a webserver in your class?

I think they're both excellent. Almost 30% of the net's websites use
WordPress, & I think that's because the learning curve for WordPress
is, I think, slightly less steep than w/Drupal.

Hmmm, well I was going to ramble on and just do one but maybe someone that has experience with the thing can do it unless there is a way for me to convert an audio tutorial to text without writing it that is.

I think you can use windows internet services iis for the wordpress local setup.

Kerryn, you cannot just download WordPress to your computer & install

How are they asking you to set up a webserver in your class?

Kerryn, you should really inquire what your classmates are using to do
this, but I recommend downloading Xampp. You should download the .zip
version, as the .exe instaler is not accessible. Here is a direct
link.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/XAMPP%20Windows/7.2.10/xampp-win32-7.2.10-0-VC15.zip/download

I'd personally advise against it. Because of most CMS's use of
mod_rewrite, Apache for a beginner is really the way to go, as it
simplifies things greatly. WordPress on IIS can be a real pita.

I personally like Hugo. It's a headless cms generating static pages. It means you keep your page in a folder on disk as markdown documents, and run hugo on publish. It generates html file based on those markdown files and a content theme you import. You can publish those content files onto anything that can support static pages. You don't even need to have php support on your web server, if it can serve html, it's good enough. That means you can post it on github pages, a normal webserver via ftp or any free webhosting solution with a few megs of space and no fancy features.

It's very accessible, as all the content and configuration are managed via the file system and the command line. Familiarity with the command line is needed but for someone who already knows how to use that, it's a perfect solution because there's absolutely no GUI, just commands to build everything, markdown for posts and toml/jaml/json for configs.

One downside of that kind of cms is that you can't really have pages dynamically rendered on the server, however, you can embed widgets for other services providing dynamic services. For example, instead of using comments build in to your cms, you can use disqus or your own solution, either with iframes or javascript and ajax.

I've looked at both www.drupal.org and www.wordpress.org . I found the Wordpress website much easier to use and
understand. My main question is about installation. Wordpress must be installed on the server. Does this mean that the
server does all the work, or is there a client program that I install on my Windows 10 computer that takes care of the
details?

Thanks,
John

You install a program like Xampp on your local box to get a server in
place, then WordPress on top of that. Or, if you already have a
server, then just create a database & install Wordpress & CONNECT IT
TO THE DATABASE YOU CREATED.
