audio recorder with screen reader accessibility:

hello every one.
i sent a comment previously which i mentioned i need one free and
accessible audio recorder which can records my voice and specially my
nvda voice, even if my system does not support stereo mix.
brian recommended me to use virtual recorder.
today, i wrote virtual recorder in google search and the only useful
link which i found is:
https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topic/virtual_recorder/1883294

but i did not find the main website for this program, i mean the
website of producer and programmers of visual recorder to download it
directly.
i dont know how to use groups.io, so, i coppied the related link for
you to get help.
thanks again for all of your kindness and support, God bless you!

Download it from this site:

There are two versions, a portable and an installed version. Carlos, who ran another list and died a little over a year ago, and who contributed in important ways to the blind community, made the program either accessible or far more than it was.  Obviously, these are Carlos' versions.

The program is available for the general public but Carlos modified it.  I'm not sure if he made it more accessible or if it is a command line program and he added a Windows interface.

Shame this wasn't an open source project. I use Audacity to record my voice and sound output because virtual recorder doesn't fully work in the latest windows 10. There's a ongoing bug where audio is constantly out of sync when trying to record from both the sound card and Microphone. Hopeful someone will release an open source version of a similar program. He was a very good programmer and he will be missed.

Hi.

Virtual recorder is one. Another is the rather interestingly named Cok Free MP3 Recorder. It can record the microphone and system sound together.

The problem doesn't arise if you have XP.  Use What You Hear, or Stereo Mix, the same feature but with a different name, or whatever it is called, it has a number of names.

Make sure the sources you want to record are unmuted in the play settings of your sound card.  Then record.

Every sound card I've worked with in XP supports What You Hear.  It was universal or nearly so until after XP.

As for finding a recorder, you can use any recorder you want.  There is no separate feature in XP requiring certain recorders.  XP doesn't support loopback, which these recorders are using, but it isn't necessary, as I explained above.  The reason loopback was instituted in recording programs is because so many sound cards don't support what you hear after XP.

Chris Mullins

Hi

I have managed to use it but it’s not very good accessibility wise.  You can start a recording but the start button only responds to the spacebar and mouse button.  It’s the same for all buttons.  You have to move focus away from the app to get any audio feedback via NVDA and find the other buttons on the GUI.  I emailed the author with some accessibility suggestions and he responded rather off-handedly saying he hadn’t got time to change anything.

Cheers

Chris
