using nvda to cancel Kindle magazine subscriptions

Mary Otten

I wonder if anybody can give me some advice as to the exact steps to follow in order to use the Amazon website to cancel Kindle magazine subscriptions.I can get to the "manage content and devices" section as instructed. I even managed to get the site to show my magazine subscriptions, something I was not successful at doing using my iPhone.

Once you have the subscriptions showing, there is an "actions" button to the left of each subscription. You are suppose to click on that to reveal choices, such as changing payment method or canceling the subscription. I can find the cancel subscription, but it does not activate when you press enter on it. I can also find it with object navigation, then press the numpad key for left click, also to no avail. What am I missing here?

I haven't done this for a while but, from memory, I think that when you hit enter on that element, a confirmation box appears at the bottom of the screen.

Good luck!

Thank you, Richard. That did the trick. Intuitive it is not, but it is nice to be able to do this without having to ask my sighted husband. It'd be cool if focus could be placed on that confirmation box after you press the cancel button.

This thread raises the question about whether a feature should be added to NVDA while using browse mode or forms mode.  If you are filling out a form, it might be a useful feature to be able to have new material that comes up in response to an action taken automatically read.  It appears, from comments in this thread, that new material comes up in response to something the user does and it is not in the form or not in a place the user would come across it if just going down the form.  If it were read, the user would be alerted to look elsewhere for the new material.

I'm not sure this feature should be on by default but it might be useful and save people trouble.

Mary, after clicking on the cancel, go to the bottom of the screen. When returning a kindle book for refund, that's where the popup is where you have to click yes to confirm. I imagine that magazines are the same way.

I can agree here. I'm learning to start looking around the screen more, usually at the bottom, if something I click doesn't seem to do anything at first. That's where the confirmations show up, and on the content and devices page at Amazon, that's almost always true. Maybe some sort of notice that content at bottom of page has changed would alert especially the beginner that something is going on that NVDA isn't focussing on immediately.

I agree on both counts, Mary...if not read it, some kind of audible alert would be very handy.

Glad it worked out for you, though.

Yes I know this is an old one. What does Jaws do?
I also suspect from my memory of this coming up last time that some browsers seem to be better than others at flagging new content too.
