wouldn't lose absolutely everything. After that, I did a full antivirus scan just to make sure I didn't have something wonky messing around with my computer. I then re-downloaded NVDA and proceeded to find all my add-ons again. I got some things back from the "windows.old" folder before deleting it through Disk Cleanup. As far as I could tell, there wasn't a whole lot there that I wanted to get back; it didn't even have all my personally created desktop icons. Of course, the reset wiped all the installed applications that didn't come with the computer, so I now have to spend valuable time getting all my programs back. I got NVDA, the TWBlue app for Twitter, and Spotify, but I haven't re-downloaded anything else, mainly because I really just don't want to take the time. But I suppose I'll have to do it anyway. Somehow I really need to get the money for an external hard drive or something so I can back up all my digital treasures! On 4/20/19, abdul muhamin <abdulmuhamin600@...> wrote:

Yes I had this happen to a friend, and it was due to turning off while an update was underway, and it had to be rolled back and the update done again. However it seems to have happened to people I know, not just blind people so maybe there is a problem for some machines. I'd have thought thy would disable shut down in such a case.

Clarissa, The latest Windows 10 update that has been released was Version 1809. The spring 2019 release has not occurred yet, and will not until May 2019, and that's if it isn't delayed again. I would very strongly suggest you contact the Microsoft Disability Help Desk as soon as possible on (800) 936-5900 ( https://hangouts.google.com/?action=chat&pn=%2B18009365900&hl=en&authuser=0 ). If you were running Version 1803 and this was the 1809 update, it can probably be rolled back. It should not have caused this issue with NVDA if it worked normally. It is critical that you figure out what's going on in regard to your Windows situation before anyone can move on to giving you good advice regarding how to proceed, or not proceed, with NVDA. -- Brian *-* Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 *Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell.* ~ Edward Abbey |

Earlier today, I turned my computer on, and it was running so slowly,
and seemingly wasn't doing anything. So I shut it down, when I turned it on again, I was greeted with a "Welcome to Windows" page in Microsoft Edge. Apparently, I just got the big April update and didn't even know it! But what really took the cake was when I discovered that NVDA had reverted to the Windows one-core voices, and all my add-ons are gone! I also lost some of my Desktop shortcuts! Not all of them though. Can I do a system restore, or do I have to re-create all those shortcuts and re-download all my add-ons? I thought I had a portable copy of NVDA on a flash drive somewhere, but apparently I don't. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |
