ABREVIATIONS AND WORDS
Monte Single
Hi Folks, I am using nvda 2019.1 with win 7. Sometimes nvda interprets things wrongly. For instance; ---drive instead of doctor, ---suite instead of street, ---in the call number of a book, “aud” is spoken as “Australian dollars”.
I have done nothing with pronounciation or dictionaries. Suggestions? Thanks, Monte |

Monte,
I would suggest using the Default Dictionary for tweaking this. If you have several specific examples of where each is being pronounced incorrectly it's easier to advise on precisely what you would want to do. I am a huge fan of regular expression matching in the dictionaries because they allow you to construct generalized patterns that will capture the vast majority of the situations you want them to while intentionally ignoring those that don't fit. Under JAWS I once had to do the same thing for the word "cup" which, when used in recipes, was almost always being announced as Cuban pesos. Use the dictionary to correct the improper
expansion of abbreviations. This isn't NVDA doing anything. It’s the
designers of whatever synthesizer you are using who told the synthesizer to
speak abbreviations as you are hearing them.
