Meanwhile, there's a work-around. It requires a few more keystrokes, but it works. Instead of trying to use the auto-complete feature in any of the fields, use the To, Cc, and Bcc buttons located above the fields. When you press any of these buttons, a dialog opens. You can then type the first few letters of the recipient's name and press Enter. A list that NVDA can read is displayed. You can arrow down and find the contact you want. Press Enter three times, and the recipient's name and/or address are placed in the appropriate field. Keystrokes access these buttons: Alt plus T for to, Alt plus C for Cc, and Alt plus B for Bcc. I hope this is clear and helpbbl. |

Windows Live Mail has a feature that does about the
same thing as the autocomplete list and is completely accessible. It
allows you to search for a contact while you are composing a message and then
place the address in the two line. It is a dialog. You can type any
part of the name or address and it will search for it. John will find all
Johns and show them in a list. Smith will show all Smiths. You can
type anything anywhere in the name and address and it will show all
instances.
I would think that Word, a more complex program and
one you pay for, would also have this feature. I consider that it renders
the autocomplete list unnecessary and redundant. it may take an extra two
keystrokes, roughly, to open the dialog but what does that very slight increase
in keystrokes matter?

2016 In that issue I linked to, there definitely was an issue reading
any of the auto complete list in Outlook 2016. I don't have 2016, but my
testing in Outlook 365 indicates that the auto complete list does now work, with
the caveat that it doesn't read fully the first time around.
The issue will likely be, whether Microsoft will be willing to fix the
autocomplete list for 2016, or whether they will say that they've fixed it as it
works in Office 365. On Tue, Aug 13, 2019 at 11:18 AM Albert Ruel

I’m using Outlook 2016 and NVDA Version 2019.1.1 and can’t get it to read the AutoComplete list no matter what I do. Perhaps I should turn off all the Add-ons I have active and test it with the bare bones.
Thx, Albert

Using NVDA 2019.2rc2 and Office 365 (16.0.11901.20170), I found:
- When you start typing a name, it doesn't autocomplete however list of suggestions does show below. Press the down arrow to select a name from the list, or tab to select the first item from the list and add it to the current field.
- The first time I start typing a name in a message, the list appears but nothing is read until I down arrow through the list. If there is more than one item in the list, NVDA reads it. If there is only one item, the focus doesn't move, so NVDA doesn't read.
- After the first time, NVDA reads the first suggestion as soon as the list appears.
We do have an issue for this here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/8502 I just added a comment, but if anyone has any extra information, please feel free to comment on that issue.
Kind regards
Quentin.

That’s very strange that it would work with JFW and not NVDA. Perhaps others on the list has some suggestions? From: nvda@nvda.groups.io [mailto:nvda@nvda.groups.io] On Behalf Of Albert Ruel

Skye, I’m using Outlook 2016 and JAWS 2019 as well as the latest version of NVDA. It works well with JAWS and not with NVDA.

Hello Albert. Sky here. I have tried typing in part of an email address using NVDA 2019.1. and it works fine on my end. What version of Outlook are you using?

Hi all. For some reason NVDA doesn’t speak the AutoComplete List when I start typing people’s names or their email addresses in the To, CC or BCC Lines in Outlook. Am I missing something like an Add-on? This seems like a feature that should be there like it is with JAWS and Narrator. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thx, Albert

NVDA behaves slightly differently from Jaws. As you type cursor up and down to hear suggestions for auto completion and then press enter to select which option you want.
