After upgrading to NVDA 2019.2 NVDA became totally not functioning

Mr. Wong Chi Wai, William <cwwong.pro@...>

Hi,
After upgrading to .2 this morning, my NVDA became totally not functioning.
I have 2 issues:
1 Since NVDA is not making any sound, I cannot create a bug file.

2 I need a NVDA 2019.1.1 installer yet I cannot find that from the releases page of the NVDA.
Could anyone provide me a official link to the download?
Thanks.

Firstly,

Have you restarted since updating?  Most commonly, problems like this directly after updating can be fixed by restarting the computer.
Let me know if that fixes it (or not).

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi

Out of curiosity did you have nvda automatically start when windows does?

Were you using a RC release before the new version.

I am wondering if the box became unchecked and then it may just be a matter of starting nvda with the alt + ctrl + letter N key. Then go back and check the box so it starts automatically again when Windows does.

it caught me again this morning.

Or does it just not start at all? Do you hear other sounds from windows like the boot up screen?

Also, if the suggestions so far do not bear fruit, the IT classic is a complete uninstall and reinstall.   It's amazing how that sometimes "fixes everything."

Quentin.
I try restart and everything doesn't change.

I try reupgrading from 18.4 to 19.2 and after or during the automatic upgrade process, there is an error msg.
I used my microsoft seeing ai to read the screen and it said something like
'locale zh hk cannot be set.'

I'm going to look into this for you.  In the meantime, if you set your language to something else, perhaps English as you seem to be fluent, and it's probably the most widely tested - then try updating and see if that works.  I just tried setting NVDA's interface to ZH_HK and it restarted in Chinese (Hong Kong) working normally (though that was the interface language, rather than the computer language).  I tried installing Traditional Chinese Hong Kong as a language in Windows and restarted the computer and again it worked for me, but maybe there's an issue installing that isn't there later on.  Which version of Windows are you using?

Regards

Quentin.

Since no-one has pointed it out, you may be helpped in debugging by using Narrator. To start it, press control+windows+enter. At least, that is the shortcut on US-English keyboards.

That may at least get you some speech so you can try things.

‘s happened to me when I got this new computer.  I forgot to check the box where you have NVDA start when windows does.  Another time I forgot to create a hot key for it. I thought something was broken. Before I wrote the list making a fool out of myself I checked to see if I had a hot key set for NVDA. Turned out I did not have one created.

Quentin,
Thanks for your reply.
I later contacted a local IT professional here in Hong Kong and found out that this error is related to one of the locally developed addon.
In that case, the problem may not be associated with the NVDA core, and I here now request the thread to be closed.

Ah thank you for the update!

Might I inquire as to the add-on, in case anyone else reports a similar thing?

Quentin,
Sure.
The addon is HKBU-2019.1 雙語音虛擬合成器
They are working on a fix for it.
At this moment, user who use this addon are strongly advised not to upgrade to 2019.2 till further notice.
