Virtual Viewer

Is there anything like the virtual viewer in JAWS that NVDA has? It
would be amazing to be able to easily bring up a list of footnotes in
Word.

I haven’t found one and hope it never comes. That was part of the problem with Jaws crashing.

Ok, I can live with it as a toggled feature. However, running all the time makes the screen reader load up your graphic buffer to cause crashing, and that was a hidden crash bug they would not fix.

Hi,

If I’m getting this thread correctly, the answer is yes and no: yes, it exists as a form of an add-on.

See the official download page:  https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/virtualRevision.en.html

The "Usage" section is very brief, but it's a starting point, and probably all that anyone familiar with the functionality from another screen reader needs.

I believe there is a lot of discussion going on about documentation for Add-Ons, and I am hoping that, at the very least, some sort of "Quick Start Guide" will become required.  There are a number of them that I have no idea how one does anything beyond installing them.   I don't expect a multi-chapter user guide, but something would be nice.

Brian, thank you for expressing that concern. I also believe that many users would benefit greatly from this implementation. Different people come with different skill levels. Have a great day.

When I open the Virtual Review window in Word, all it says is
"Navigation". I was hoping it would be similar to the JAWS Virtual
Viewer in Word where you could do things like bring up a list of
footnotes.

Well, virtual viewer is a pretty generic term in JAWS, it is one of three methods that JAWS programmers can use to present additional or supplemental information to the JAWS user. From your description, there is the "virtual cursor" toggle in JAWS (insert-Z) which in words allows you to do single letter navigation to spelling errors, foot notes, headings, links and other special items. This is similar to "Browse mode" in NVDA which can be toggled with insert-space. Others can provide more details of what signle key navigation is available in this mode in NVDA.
