Reporting information about visual formattings of Web sites
Nika Tsiklauri
Hi all! I am trying to access the information related to css, such as position of the image on the web site, if there's background image on the page and etc. Does anyone know how to do it? I am trying to press insert+f but it sometimes says, No formatting information. Any kind of help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure how well it will work, but in the Preferences menu of NVDA, there is an item labelled document formatting. In this dialogue box are checkboxes relating to how much detail you want spoken when reading the document or webpage. Is this similar to what you are looking for? Hope that helped. Regards Luke

Hi. this won't help with info in css. As far as I know, every screen reader basically ignores css stuff.

Luke, it at some point worked for me. Brian, I think it ignores all the divs such as if I have div displayed in center and then I have another one in that div. Such information couldn't be displayed as I was trying that.

When checking format information of styles defined in CSS, when in your

browser, make sure you are on document layout when pressing NVDA+f. I refer to a message I sent to this list a few days ago, asking that when in a virtual rendered window, such as in browsers, that document review is triggered by default when selecting text with NVDA+F9 and F10, as well as when checking format information with NVDA+F. Checking format info when screen review or object review is active reports the wrong information. The extent to which the below message is correct, is that all Windows screen readers will report information in a top to bottom layout. This, for example, does not give a true reflection of screen layout. A typical example is the navigation bar which could be placed on the left side of the screen, regardless of where one is on the page, at least, visually. According to sscreen readers the navigation bar is always at the top. The best way to determine actual screen layout is with a tablet, moving your finger across the screen to see where elements are placed.
