Hi,
The login page apparently has instructions on creating an account. For those in the States, the first time certification fee is about 76 dollars, with the renewal fee being half of that.
Cheers,
Joseph

Up the top of the page is a link to "log in".  If you go to that link, it takes you to: https://certification.nvaccess.org/login where you can create an account (note that form lets you log in with an existing account as well, so make sure you are in the right part).

Regards

Quentin.

Hi Gene,

Yes, the certification is up and running now.  We had a couple of beta testers and then quietly soft-launched it just as we left for CSUN, to try and catch any bugs before they affected too many people.  So we haven't promoted it too hard yet.

Anyone can do the exam, there is no cost for sitting the test, however, after passing the text, to purchase a certificate and have your name added to the certified individuals list costs AUD $100, which is roughly $75 USD (depending on the current exchange rate).  You have 55 minutes to complete the test.

If you have worked through the "Basic Training for NVDA" module, and understood the material, you should be well prepared for the exam, however it is important to stress that purchase of the training module is not required to sit the exam or become certified.

Also, for those who have done the certification, apologies for the delay, I'm about to send the certificates out this morning.

Kind regards

Quentin.

How much does it then cost to renew the certification once you initially get certified, and, how often must one renew to stay current?

Hi Quentin.

Is there a email that comes out after you register?

I signed up for a new account and after it was done i was signed in to my account. I could not see the part where i could do the certification so then logged out.

I then went to the section in the email which gives me the link to the place where i can sign in to do it add in my email and password then go to log in.  it says bad email or password yet it logged me in before.

I was going to have a look at the certification to see what i had to learn or do as i have never done one before.

In the password section does it accept symbols?

I was wondering if when registed if a email came out you had to click on to make it active like in some accounts.

Hi Gene,

Sorry I didn't get to help you earlier, glad you got the login sorted out.

The cost of the certification is $100 AUD, which works out to around $75 USD (or thereabouts currently, depending on the exchange rate).  The rate for renewals is 50% ($50 AUD or $38 USD or thereabouts, which is a yearly renewal.

Regards

Quentin.

Quentin.

I sat the exam and will probably be getting a proper certificate soon when I can actually afford it. I'm curious though; is there some way we could have the ability to see which questions we got wrong--or at least see our scores for each of the sections individually? I realize the former might be difficult to code depending on how it's designed, so I hardly expect this to be on the priority list.

Hi Simon,

Well done on sitting the exam.  I'm not sure what the limits are of what is and isn't possible with the certification system, but it's great to get feedback and ideas, so I will definitely let the others know at least.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi Quentin.

I have been testing my knowledge doing the test and finally got quick enough to finish the test. I did not pas but was wondering what is the pass rate? is it like 80 percent? it also gave me a message i could not do it for 3 weeks is there a reason for it to be that long?

When i was going through the test there are questions about braille or using a braille display and what it shows etc for example when text is highlighted what does it show on the braille display or on the braille display how does the link show I think that was the wording for it.

Are these type of answers in the user guide? or in your book? I am thinking  only a user of those display would know.

I guess also i need to learn a little of the lap top commands as well.

Those ones i have looked up.

There are probably other questions I was unsure about so that is why I did not pass only 73 percent.

I noticed as well when i finished the test it did not give me any feed back on the areas i got wrong. this would be helpful to learn up on those areas which i got wrong.

The other thing i notice when i went to log into the text where you enter in your email etc it was very slow to type in like it was delayed by a second or 2. The computer was not scanning either for any thing.

Should there be two certifications, one including Braille and the other not?  If I were going to be certified, regardless if I memorized certain answers about Braille use with NVDA, I would still have no experience using a Braille display.  I would think that just answering some questions about Braille is meaningless in terms of being able to teach its use well to NVDA users.  And if there two certifications and two tests, then a certification that included Braille and said so would direct people where to get help or instruction from those with real hands on experience.

I'm not sure how the certifications should differ beyond this, but I would think that The nonBraille certification would ask few or no questions about the use of Braille while the Braille certification would include all the questions of the nonBraille certification and also questions about Braille.

Hi Gene

When i was testing my knowledge on the tests they all had a section on braille along with stuff on windows and nvda etc. When you go through it as well it is read the question and will be either a radio button  for the answer or in other cases you need to check boxes to do with the answer. It is a good way of testing my knowledge but when you do the questions some of them i have had to read a few times to try and get it to sink in what they are saying. Most of the questions are pretty good.

I just hope what i have read up on does not disappear before the next time i try in 3 weeks.

I guess when i was at school you could refer back to the questions etc and make it sink in more then.

The tests may have some simular questions but each one is different.

Some times also you do stuff and you know the answers or by doing it but can be in the wording of what they are trying to say. Most questions are pretty straight forwards.

I guess also that is why they call it a expert test seeing how well you know the in and outs of windows, nvda etc.
