Can you give steps to reproduce?  Does it happen every time you use the arrow keys in the tree view?

I haven't got Windows 8.1 in front of me to test with just now, so if I can get as many details as possible for when I can test it that would be great.

Regards

Quentin.

Well if its installed then there should be no issue other than perhaps a lag as you scroll the list.
I have seen temp copies not rad the list very well due to the fact it cannot access the accessability api due to privelidge issues, ie it needs to be admin.

Other than that I'd scratch my head unless something else installed is putting an invisible window over the contents for some odd reason.
I had a wireless internet dongle do this once. I had to uninstall it.

Thanks, Quentin!  Unfortunately, it just happens randomly.  However, whenever it happens, it impacts Outlook as well.  Perhaps there is an invisible window as Brian indicated, but I am unable to see it if it does exist.  However, when it happens, I can’t navigate at all through Outlook messages, Explorer windows, etc.  It doesn’t seem to impact the web.  Perhaps we can use the Remote feature if you wanted to see it in real time when it happens.

Thanks,

Jonathan

When it happens, you could try pressing NVDA+f1 which shows the log and current control etc, that might shed some light on it if you can send it to me.

I've seen issues with Outlook for some users, but haven't noticed anything with File Explorer.

I have been away so I am late coming to this thread.

However I also have this problem with NVDA and Windows/File Explorer – I am actually using

 Windows 10.

I am getting this problem on both my Desktop using Anniversary and Laptop machine  which is using the Creator’s update.

Personally I am using Detailed and not List view in File Explorer but switching to List view does not change matters.

The charactgeristic of the problem is that you can tab around the File Explorer window but NVDA is very laggy. When you get to where the list of files and folders should be read you do not get a response for a very long time if you try curssoring up and down to read the contents of the folder.

The problem seems to gtet worse the larger the folder of files is.

The problem does not occur when using either Jaws or Narrator both of which read the files without delay.

The workaround  I find is not to use NVDA with File Explorer but for NVDA only I use Explorer ++ which works with the same folders absolutely  fine and responsively.

I assume you have looked at the old bug of the idle speed of the processor being set too low on some machines for a responsive explorer. However I've never had it so slow as you folk seem to be saying it is.
On a laptop particularly, the processor gets throttled back to 10 percent and seems not to notice the extra load it has when using a screenreader using via to read folders and files.
I sped mine up on a desktop and it fixed into in windows 7 and 10.
However my oldAMD machine was still sluggish.

Also it seems to take forever as you scroll down as you can often hear a progress bar ascending its tones before you get very far down a big folder. One supposes this is the search cache being built as you go down, as it only seems to happen once a session unless you run ccleaner and delete the search cache with it of course.
grin.
