lag when writing messages in thunderbird

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Yes well, in that case then, I'm not sure what the problem is. I have tried Thunderbird a while ago and to me the response is always a bit spongy even in windows 7, but laggy, not really, just a bit like typing on an old rubber keyboard.

I have also had big lags only in TB composition but with both NVDA and
Window-Eyes.

I am running Windows 7 pro on an i7 2.7GHrz processor with 16 GB of RAM. I
don't think the lag should be from a slow machine especially since it
doesn't impact programs like word or excel which can lag with lack of
processing power.

I have the service pack 1 for win 7 and haven't looked into other service
packs. Might that help?

Thoughts?

General sluggishness with Thunderbird. I have a feeling, though,

Try disabling Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Enable Global Search and

but I personally found that global search didn't help me and was a
performance killer.

This option is no longer present in thunderbird, so that won't help. And, just for reference, I'm using thunderbird, and NVDA 2017.3, and I'm not seeing the slowdown problem when typing text in messages. I did experience a small bit of this when I first upgraded to 2017.3, but it seems to have gone away, though I didn't do anything to help solve it. Well, come to think of it, I did install some windows updates today, perhaps that was the fix.

I would imagine there might be many reasons for this problem and I don't know if the cursor might be one of them.  I doubt it.  I suspect the cursor blink rate is determined by Windows and you aren't having such problems in other places.  I don't know what possible solutions might exist.  A workaround would probably be to write the message in Notepad, copy it the the clipboard and paste it into the message body.  If you try this, check the message after you paste it to make sure the lines are the correct length.  If they are, that would solve the problem, assuming you don't want to do things like use things like italics, underline, etc.
