the volume on the creators update is softer
Rosemarie Chavarria
Hi, everyone,
I don't know if it's just me or if the volume in the creators update is softer now. Have any of you noticed that? Everything (speakders and NVDA volume) is set to 100 percent. I was just wondering about the softness of the new update.

I haven't noticed that, but I did have to fiddle with the audio drivers quite a bit. It seems that the chipset in this laptop has some idiotic codecs that get loaded and do weird stuff to the sound, so I had to disable them. There were driver updates in the creator's update though. Make sure your enhancements or stuff like that didn't get re-enabled when you updated. Sometimes that happens.

press the windows key then type sound. you may have to arrow down to find just sound. press enter. In the box that pops up highlite your defualt sound device. It will say default after it. Now tab to properties. now ctrl + tab to effects or enhancements. then tab to the checkbox that says disable all...You may have to look around in here a little as each manufacturer is a little different.

You have to open properties after you tab to
it. Press the space bar if it's a button.

And if you are unlucky enough to have one of these laptops with DTS linked to the realtek audio manager, and no way to disable the "enhancements", then you're stuck going into task manager and finding the startup tab and disabling the realtek audio from there. At least that's what I ended up doing. Plus, to make things worse, Windows onboard sound often defaults to 48000 hz for playback and recording, and that results in pops and crackles for most sounds, because they're expecting 44100 hz. Now to go looking for a portable sound card that also connects to the phone. I don't know why manufacturers think I want my music screwed with. If I want all this compression and stuff I can find an FM radio easily enough.

I don't have a laptop but apparently you can't disable enhancements on this desktop either so I guess I'm stuck with it. Thanks for trying to help though. I'll call Microsoft tomorrow and see if they can figure it out. I sure can't.

And even if you do that it's still not likely to work. They must be using some on-chip codecs because I'm still getting dynamic compression applied. It's less worse than it was with the realtek services running, but it's still noticeable. This is not helpful for most sounds at all. I wonder what the hit for CPU performance is for this nonsense. I'll continue screwing around with drivers until I find a fix I guess. The phone doesn't have these artifacts, so at least I can just use that.

I ended up calling the microsoft disability line and they helped me solve the problem. I tried to set sounds and messed it up by choosing the HP device instead of speakers. Anyway, it's working fine now. Thanks for all your help.

well actually july not february.

Chances are that your effects are on also volumes and such are defaulted, a smattering of privacy settings file associations players, etc are defaulted and I needed to reinstall the klite mega codec pack and set things to how I wanted it codec wise. Also 7zip was set with all extentions to only work on my account that I updated windows with and I had to set it to all things like that.

Yeah a lot of the laptops now use their own overlays on the realtech drivers the hp uses something called dts this makes speech semi suck but I tried without the realtech device and the sound speakers are so small its like listening to it from a box.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
The hp dts at least sounds nice and spacial audio set to sonic will push up volumes a little to. On my new gegabyte system I am planning to get they have creative overlays sadly on my external soundcard these make speech a bit choppy but music, sfx and games really rock so I will forgive that.

You can turn off dts with sighted help but I'd honestly wouldn't turn it off, the speech is not to bad but the sound sort of sucks without dts I actually like dts better than sps premium or the waves max on del that really sucks, dts is not to bad.

Well, on my one laptop so far where I have installed the release of 1709, dell audio came back from whatever section of hell it came from. I got this off once before but it really needs to go. I have another system which is much the same.

Anyone know how to kill dell audio? it is horid and makes speech pretty awful. Brian. Contact me on skype: brian.moore follow me on twitter: http://www.twitter.com/bmoore123

Well it will and you need to use sightling help to clear it from its control panel, is del audio that bad, I tried with sightling help for hp but found it like listening to a small box and it didn't sound to good.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
The audio from the screen reader some sounds fade in and out a little but speech is not effected and in fact it seems to improve it on the hp so I thought hell just leave it.
