Tere is a way but it may only work if you have a
specific built-in brand of sound card. I haven't used NVDA in safe mode
and I don't know enough about doing so to discuss the matter
further.

A few years ago, someone passed on something called "Audio in Safe Mode". I never used it, but I think I still have it somewhere. Does anyone know what it was?

I think it was our friend Doris who gave it to me, saying it might have come in handy some day. If someone can remember, and give instructions, I'd be more than happy to share it. Ciao, Ollie

Well there used to be a registry patch for xp, but I don't know about other versions of windows. The whole point of safe mode is to lode as few drivers into windows as possible. there is a safe mode with network support so I guess ifyou knew how to load just enough to get sound working, then you could do that, but as I say safe mode gets less safe the more drivers you load!

If its the one I saw it was a registry mod for xp. Since sound does operate differently in 7 and up, I'd be very wary of trying it personally, see my previous post.

I guess if you saved the registry and then tried it out and if it screwed up you could always reload the old version but I think one might need sighted help to test this, as if it trashed the system a bit of fiddling might be needed to regain a working system given that the mode windows starts in is selected before speech. It has always confused me why there could not be some agreed default mode for sound hard ware for this sort of thing so a part of the bios could simply access the hardware and speak. sound in safe mode was a registry hack you need to have real tech sound card for this to work.

Does NVDA, narrator or jaws works in safe mode? Can not delete avast and
the only way to uninstall it is by going to safe mode.

Window Eyes would run in safe mode but I think they were the only one that would.

Here is a file which changes your registry in the way that sound driver is kept on in safe mode. It works in windows 10 and I have tested it in Windows 7 x86 and it works as well. There is also a discussion in this forum about it, it was some days ago. Several people tested it and in works.

Right, I forgot about that. I use a wireless dongle so I don't know if this would in fact work. It is a Logitech usb wireless headset.
