Hi.
Well I just decided to update skype for windows desktops.
It sadly appears that skype the new skype sadly is not even closed to accessible.
Buttons for contacts and messages appear ok but over that there is a lot of clickable, clickable, clickables.
The settings tab was completely inaccessible though I was able to set it up just fine.
I really hope ms is going to keep skype classic, you can get round this right now by typing skype setup full in google and it will find you the old one but how long this will stay out is anyone's guess.
I can't even get the right click menu in system tray to work.
If anything else all I really want is ms to keep skype classic available for those that want it, they don't need to do anything to it, I'd prefur a simple classic skype for us blind people but failing that if skype stays as it is well.
I just can't loose skype all my business and other stuff goes through it.
Its not an option, but if skype becomes crap, I may have to use an old version or even just no longer use skype because its crap now!
No, I can't even do that, the new interface I just can't get round it, I have been happily able to reinstall skype classic and update it with the latest classic version.
You need to look for the classic version now.
This is not on.
And it appears the new app won't run on the latest win10 which itself is fine but to be honest the classic skype is really accessible.

Yes Skype has a history if you look back over the years, every time they fix one thing they screw up several others. this was even before Microsoft got their hands on it.

Thanks for mentioning this, we've noticed a decline in accessibility here too on a win 8.1 and my win 10 machine but will try the accessibility mode and see if that helps. Original message:

Hi
I think he is referring to the metro app version of skype. Under the settings part there is no accessibility part built into it.
You need to do alot of tabbing in it.

I love this subject, like Skype is some sort of rotted fruit now. See, this is why these messages always mystify me. I opened Skype. I went into help, and picked "check for updates". I got two options, "update Skype classic" and "try the new Skype". I picked "update Skype classic". Skype updated.
Do you know what I get now? The exact same Skype I had before, in terms of how it appears to a screen reader and in terms of accessibility. I go into the tools menu, I see options, I go into options, it's the same tree thingy it's always been, no "clickable clickable clickable clickable clickable" to infinity and beyond. Right clicking works, both from the NVDA system tray addon, and via tabbing into the system tray, highlighting Skype with the arrows, and right-clicking with the applications key or equivalent. And I literally googled "skype desktop" this past week to download and install Skype, because I'd switched to the new version to try it out and decided to go back, and I got the same Skype when I downloaded that too, works just like it always has, separate chat windows and all.
You make it sound as though anybody who updates Skype is going to get a completely inaccessible mess. That's simply not true.

Hi, Yep, skype for desktop is the same as it always was. I think he meant the windows 10 app. I hear that soon, though, Microsoft is doing away with the desktop version for windows 10 but I’ll believe it when I see it. I’m pretty done with skype overall, though. On mobile devices it’s simply garbage. Yes, you can use it but it’s nowhere near as seamless as it used to be. Which is sad because it used to be so nice for multi platform usability.

Hmph, well Thats really bad.
Its a pitty there can't just be a skype for the blind or a simple interface theme.
All we need is contacts and messages for basic skype/ms/facebook accounts.
We don't need the big page which can get in the way, or the add bar,
I was dissapointed about the new interface, I mean if thats the new interface fine but we seriously need some way to get it working if it is replacing things.
Either that or if ms can just release a classic skype which is cut down to the basics the tabs and thats it or the current classic semi broken skype bad as it is well its not that bad I can still use it.

But thats the issue.
look at blogs.skype.com
For some reason they have updated 7x, the skype 8 is still a preview, but its supposed to be roling out, that means we should be a bit concerned.
I decided to try it and I really hoped access would be there.
Not only is the interface radicaly different, its really not what I would call accessible or if it is that user friendly to me.
Heck old skype 7 has a lot of interface issues if I am not in the right place.
I was just hoping with their push towards a universal library that they would like actually release a decent app out of the box like they seem to have been doing for the last little bit.
On that note due to a site not working with esr firefox I ahd to switch back to 56 so well I will have to cope with 57 but it could be worse.
Skype is a major part of my communication system I can't just go and stop using crappy skype, its my phone with my contacts and chats for family and friends its like a bit of my life I need to use it.

Yeah to get round the issue you need to hit control home to get to the top of the page, then control tab or shift tab to get back to the list box then hit control 1 and 2 again to get the tabs up.
Sadly that page is a pain and its easy to get there.
Skype 8 is worse.
Skype 7 while it does have a few issues I can still use enough that I can enjoy it.

We are actually discussing this on my skype english list. Go to skypeenglish.tffppodcast.com for more info and to read the archives, and join if you want. There will probably be a big discussion about it when it hits, which it will soon. I've seen the previews and they are a mess.

But thats the issue.look at blogs.skype.comFor some reason they have updated 7x, the skype 8 is still a preview, but its supposed to be roling out, that means we should be a bit concerned.I decided to try it and I really hoped access would be there. Not only is the interface radicaly different, its really not what I would call accessible or if it is that user friendly to me.Heck old skype 7 has a lot of interface issues if I am not in the right place.I was just hoping with their push towards a universal library that they would like actually release a decent app out of the box like they seem to have been doing for the last little bit.On that note due to a site not working with esr firefox I ahd to switch back to 56 so well I will have to cope with 57 but it could be worse.Skype is a major part of my communication system I can't just go and stop using crappy skype, its my phone with my contacts and chats for family and friends its like a bit of my life I need to use it.On 31/10/2017 8:59 a.m., John Isige wrote:I love this subject, like Skype is some sort of rotted fruit now.

I really don't care for the mess, skype7 had its messy side and sure it was a pain but as long as you were carefull you could manage it.
I have some other work to do today on another issue but I plan to try skype preview again and see if I can make heads or tails of the thing once again.
