Wordpress.com and NVDA
Hi, everyone. I have a blog on wordpress.com and have a couple questions about using it with NVDA. I've noticed that the HTML editor doesn't seem to be very accessible, so I have to switch to the visual rich text editor to write a post. Is there something I can change in the settings or something to make this more accessible? Also, I'm a beginner at blogging and only have a couple posts on my blog. Before I really get going with it, are there any settings I should change, good accessible themes or plugins I should use, or tips you have for someone just getting started? Thanks.

I usually use text editor to edit my article offline, then copy to wordpress site. If you're familiar with html, you can write as this format, then open the html in your browser, copy its content, and paste to the body of your post on Wordpress site. Otherwise, use Microsoft Word to edit, then do the same. ---------------- Dang Manh Cuong The Assistive technology specialist Sao Mai Vocational and assistive center for the blind 52/22 Huynh Thien Loc St., Hoa Thanh ward, Tan Phu dist., HCM, Vietnam. Speaking of Wordpress with NVDA, with Windows7, is there some kind of a Wordpress app, so that I won't have to work with the wordpress site itself?

I know markdown. Will Markdown work as well if I'd paste the post content to the Wordpress site?

Yes mark down wordks well if you convert it to a html file, open and copy its content within a browser. I have a website created using wordpress, other created using drupal, and I did that for my post, or the post I copied from other site. You can try reading one at: https://saomaicenter.org/en/newsletter/accesstech/sao-mai-accesstech-issue-51 Note that I just do that with Jaws, I've not try copy web content using NVDA so you could try and give featback here I think. I had a webdesigner to set up my Wordpress blog http://gilesturnbullpoet.com and I don't think she did anything specifically to make it easier for me to navigate with NVDA. Like Dang Manh Cuong I am comfortable with html code so I draft my weekly posts in Notepad with the tags like <h1>page title</h1> and <b>bold</b> and then I head to my Wordpress dashboard and paste the article code in there. I select New Post and then enter the title for the post, and then I press e to go to the next edit box, but before I go into it I shift+tab backwards through the formatting options until after threee or four presses I find the code button. I press that and it drops be right back into the text area with a <code> tag at the start. My article text / code then folows immediately after.
I have about 4 tags set up, Blindness, Competitions / Submissions, education, and technology. I usually have at least one of those to select so I press escape to exit from the text area and press x to take me to the first of those check boxes. Once I've selected those I use shift+b to jump back to the publish putton and that's it! I used to find the media library hard to use because I could never find the url to the images I'd uploaded. Because I'm hand coding the blogposts I'd use <img src="<url to image> alt="alternative text"> so I need to know that file url. I found it finally by going to media library in the dashboard, using x to navigate to the media file (image or mp3) and then select it and use shortcut k to go to the edit link. In the edit page the url can be found down near the save button. Hope that's a little help. I'm no WOrdpress expert, but those steps work fine for me every week :) I did have to educate my designer that when she described something as being on the top right then it didn't always translate into how I navigate with NVDA ... we got there in the end though :) |

No not exactly, if you sign on wordpress.com/wp-admin then after that m.wordpress.com, use that and you can post its sad that they seem to be asking you to buy services rather than the free software which it still is, but thats how they make cash so.

For me wordpress is nice but the standard wordpress.com sucks. On 3/11/2017 3:06 a.m., Gerardo Corripio wrote:
