Windows OneCore Voices Speed

Is there a way to increase the speed of the Windows 1 Core Voices while using them with NVDA? Even set at 100%, the rate is still extremely slow. -- Kelby Carlson |

In the voice settings dialogue, if MS one-core voice is selected as synthesizer, if you tab past speech rate slider, there's a checkbox to boost the speech rate, which can make it rather fast?
This is from one of the relatively new versions of NVDA, but
anyway. Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype: BlindZA "...resistance is futile...but, acceptance is versatile..." On 2019-12-23 3:44 PM, kelby carlson

Ok, my bad - think it might have only been included in the 2019.3
beta version - thus intended for NVDA 2019.3, but, honestly, also
not something I pay attention to, since barely ever use any of the
natural sounding voices. Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype: BlindZA "...resistance is futile...but, acceptance is versatile..." On 2019-12-23 4:13 PM, kelby carlson

Hi. You might like to try the rate boost. If it’s turned on NVDA will speak very fast. If using laptop, hold down control, shift, NVDA and use left or right arrow to navigate to rate boost option. Press up arrow to turn it on, down arrow to turn it off. I am I am not sure what the commands for desktop are.

Which voices do you use? The version of Eloquence I am using is nout out for NVDA 2019.3. I find Espeak very difficult to use and don't have options besides the 1 Core voices. On Mon, Dec 23, 2019 at 9:18 AM molly the blind tech lover <brainardmolly@...> wrote:

Is there any particular reason not to use a
compatible version of NVDA at this time? If there is no important reason
to switch, you can wait to see if a compatible version comes out or you can
purchase something compatible when you have a reason to use a newer version of
NVDA. I don't know what else may now be compatible but the Code factory
add-on is and I would think that the SAPI 5 Eloquence you can purchase would be
compatible because, being SAPI 5, it relies on SAPI 5 and doesn't care about how
NVDA is coded, so long as it properly implements that standard, which has
nothing to do with the transition to Python 3. (spelling)

I stopped using Eloquence a while back. I didn't think I'd ever get used to a different voice, but I now actually prefer Microsoft Zira in the OneCore voices, and yes, you can speed them up. You have to go to the rate boost option and check it. to get to the rate boost option, I do the following: NVDA+control+v, then tab over until you hear rate boost. Check that box and tab to OK. You might be able to play around with the rates after checking that rate boost box before going to OK, but I'd hit OK, then I'd go back into those settings and set your rate and then tab to OK again. If you have NVDA 2019.2 this should work. I think the rate boost option came as a feature to 2019.2. It was either 1 or 2, I don't remember, but I'm certainly glad it's available. Hope this helps. Yes, since I reinstalled Windows from scratch, and decided to choose English UK as system language, I'm using OneCore voices, and I must say I love them. They work very well with NVDA, are less intrusive than other voices (softer to the ear, somehow), clear and very flexible. Now I need to install some other voices for different languages, but I think this is gong to be my tts of choice. On 23/12/2019 20:49, Annette Moore wrote:

Hi all!
I use Elequance on both JAWS and NVDA. I’m sorry that the newest version doesn’t work like the older versions! So far, I’ve done all right with Elequance but if that changes, I’ll be sure to explore other voices on NVDA and pick one.

What do you mean by the newer version doesn't work
like the older versions? What are you using, an NVDA add-on or something
else? You can use Eloquence in the new version of NVDA. The Code
Factory Add-on has been made compatible. You should be able to use the
SAPI 5 version with NVDA. I haven't tried it but there is no reason it
shouldn't work.

The SAPI5 version works for sure, but not the one with the NVDA addon. Codefactory will give an updated version of the addon as soon as NVDA 2019.3 is released.
