The period key not speaking

 

Hi Group,

Since I upgraded to 2019.3.1 the key for period is not speaking. There
is no issue with other punctuation keys.
Additionally NVDA does not read the word 'period'.
What could be the problem? Any ideas?

When you say NVDA does not read the word "period", do you mean at all?  As in if I wrote in fifth period I have math, it would read "in fifth I have math"?

If that is the case, it sounds like you have a dictionary entry to replace the word period with nothing.  In that case, press NVDA+N, then P then D then ENTER (we'll start with the default dictionary - if this doesn't work, try the same thing but instead of pressing ENTER here, down arrow once to "Voice dictionary" just in case).  Arrow through the options and see what you have.  If you have any you aren't sure of, press ALT+R to remove them (or ALT+E to edit them and fix them).

Hi Quentin,

I tried both of your suggestions, but no luck.
I must have done something wrong, because I lost voice and could not
NVDA. So using JAWS I uninstalled and reinstalled NVDA. Then I went to
voice dictionary and typed "pattern" and the voice returned.. There is
no a list ov entries in the voice dictionary.
Both the key for period and the word period are still silent. If I
move on the word with the right arrow key the letters p e r i o d are
spoken.

Hi,
What I would suggest you is to uninstall NVDA and then go to roaming
by typing %appdata% in the Run dialogue box and there, delete the NVDA
folder. Then when you install it, hopefully the problem would be
solved. And also, don't forget to backup your addons if you wish to
not install them again.

'AppData' is a folder in your Windows user account home folder, and 'Roaming' is a folder within that. AppData\Roaming is where programs on your machine store data that is specific to your user account. The folder is normally hidden, and lives within your user account home folder.
