Accessibility issues with latest potplayer, warn user not to upgrade to latest version
William
Hi,
One of my computer updated potplayer to 1.7.21126 and came across the following issues with nvda. 1. pressing application key / right click with mouse cannot access the context menu 2. pressing f5 cannot access the preferences 3. the installer of the latest version added a adware, and if it is on that step, pressing tab with nvda cannot access the buttons. I found it very frustrated, cause my work require potplayer's function. Anyone would know any media player has a function to press hotkey and copy the current play position to clipboard? Thanks, William

I have never used this player but whilst I was looking it up saw that downloads of older versions appear to be archived on

Many thanks. Do you have any understanding of downloading from such website, is it safe? Usually there are some download site that will inject some extra malware or adware into the installers. David Griffith 於 20/2/2020 10:19 寫道:

Hello.
Pot Player now have accessibility issues. A temporal solution is search the installer of a previous version and not update, but the developers now introduce this issues, and in 2018 this player not had a problem with NVDA. Regards.

Is this an issue exclusive to Windows 10? On my Windows 7 PotPlayer seems to be accessible, even with the latest version. My laptop is running Windows 10 and I'm experiencing the same issue whereby the context menu is not accessible.
Update: I tried the earlier suggestion to change a skin setting, and it worked! Regarding the adware, the button to decline the offer is clearly accessible with NVDA. Just press enter or space on the decline button and you should be good to go.

Though the software itself may be fine, and free, these days the costs of hosting are often covered by the loathsome practice of bundling, whereby you are "offered" something you neither want nor need as part of the install, and most often that offer is such that if you do not opt out you get it by default. Even if you use a tool such as Unchecky you still need to be doing your own due diligence, as there are constantly new ways of sneaking these offers in. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

After the fix, my potplayer is now able to access the context menu. I think the problem is not exclusive to Win 10, because my win 7 is having this issue as well. anuj sharma 於 20/2/2020 23:14 寫道:

William, are you using the latest updates in windows ten? I don’t know if this is true. I don’t think its accessible for ten. If it is. You may have to tweek it for you to make it work. I heard it works quite well with windows 7. I think if you down grade Pot player it will probably work for you.

Hi William Wong,
You don't have to downgrade. Restart potplayer several times and try f5. When you get to preferences: find tree view, go to top, expand general, under general Skins. Press tab several times, make Context menu combox and change it to system dafult. Context menu: System default And save it. I hope it'll get fixed. Can you tell me how do you copy current time by pressing hotkey?
|
|
William
Hi, sorry just saw your reply. Well, I finally managed to make the setting work. How to copy time to clipboard? Go into setting, there is a page to configure hotkey. In there you can add hotkey and its associated function.yunus Emre 於 25/2/2020 0:04 寫道:

I found it but i can't set a hotkey with NVDA or jaws or narrator.

William
Haha, There need some trick. Because the ui is not accessible, i.e. after setting the hotkey in the box, if you tab, the hot key will be set to tab. so you need a mouse to control, i.e. after pressing the key into the box, you need to use mouse to put the focus out to somewhere.
