hi, I sometimes use notepad plus plus to hand edit brl or brf braille files and other text files. I went into the edit menu and I wanted to enter some accented characters into a text file so I brought up the character panel, found the character I wanted and pressing enter puts that character into the file. But now when I run notepad++ the character panel keeps coming up and I can’t find a way to close it. So how do I close the character panel? Pressing F8 should take you back to the document. There is a
close button in the character panel, but it seems only to be
accessible with the mouse; I couldn't find it with NVDA using the
navigator.
This is one of the issues I have with Notepad++: while much of it
is accessible, many of the keyboard shortcuts are completely
non-standard.

Not the OP, but I tried this this morning before responding to
them, and this does nothing - or didn't for me.

It does nothing for me either. Choosing the character panel again does nothing. Maybe I'll try moving the mouse around and see what I can find.

Hi Sascha ,
Pressing F8 works to take you back to the main edit screen. I don't
see this indexed anywhere with the help screens, but it is good to
know that this keystroke works.

I only found out about it a couple of days ago while editing the
keyboard shortcuts. Which is another ordeal of its own!

Hi Dan,
Glad I could help. As I mentioned in a previous post, sometimes the
program will quit working. With the latest version, I think this has
something to do with JAVA updates. I had it happen twice in the
past year. All I do to get it working again is uninstall and
reinstall. With version 3.x, this seems to solve the issues.
