Possible bug found

I may have found a minor bug in latest NVDA. I have the extended insert key (also known as the insert key on the "six pack" keys set as the nvda modifier key. At first, I had thought it had gotten unset or something as when I press this key, I get no beep while I do get the beep when I press caps lock. However, the key is working as the NVDA modifier key correctly. Is this normal to have a beep for caps lock as the nvda modifier but no beep for the extended insert key? I had thought both keys would beep for a single press to let you know it is the nvda key but they will do their normal functions if pressed twice quickly. If there isn't supposed to be the beep on the extended insert key, then this is normal but I just wanted to ask about this as I'm pretty sure I have heard a beep for that key in earlier versions of nvda.

Just as a data point, I have never heard an auditory cue from a press of the NVDA key when I've been using NVDA. I am guessing this is a setting somewhere, but not one I've ever used. The one auditory cue I do notice is the change from browse to focus mode, or vice versa. And I just experimented with NVDA while entering this message via the web interface. There is a windows setting to beep on caps lock. I think OP might

Hi Roger It sounds like you have the Ease of Access setting called “Toggle keys” switched on. This causes Caps lock, Num lock and Scroll lock to emit a high pitched beep when pressed. It has no effect on the functionality of NVDA at all and is just to reassure the user that they have pressed one of the keys named previously.

If you just press the numpad insert
key, there has never been a beep. This was an alert that you have
pressed either extended insert or caps lock key if they have been
set to also be the nvda key.

I have this issue too. No matter how many times I go into the ease of use settings and turn off those very annoying beeps, they just keep coming back again. I always click on apply when I finish turning them off but they come back anyway. If anyone figures out how to fix this issue, my sensitive ears and headaches will appreciate it.

Hi
Not sure where you are hearing the sounds but have a look under ease of access center then keyboard and this might be one of the settings called Play a sound whenever you press Caps Lock, Num Lock or Scroll Lock and turn it off.
There is no apply button just close the screen but have a look there just in case some how you might be turning on sticky keys I think they make a beep.
is there any where else it is beeping? This is on a windows 10 machine.

Hi Roger There is a shortcut key to switch this feature on and off. Just hold down the Num Lock key until you hear a double beep. If you are switching toggle keys on, the second of the two beeps is higher in pitch and Windows will display a dialog box asking you to confirm if you want Toggle keys on or not. You can just press enter on the yes or no button or read the entire dialog by pressing NVDA+b. When you switch it off, the second note of the double beep descends in pitch and there is no dialog.

Hi Sandra When you go into the Ease of Access settings, as well as unchecking the toggle buttons for Sticky, Toggle and Filter keys, ensure you also uncheck the check boxes that allow the shortcut keys for these features to work. When you have done this, tab until you get to the “Home” button and press enter. You should land in the top level Settings dialog, press Alt+f4 to close this. Now you have disabled the shortcut keys for these features, you will not be able to accidentally switch them back on during normal keyboard use. if you ever need to use any of them, you will have to go into the Ease of Access keyboard settings to 1 enable the feature and/or 2 enable the shortcut key that controls the feature.
