Locked Looking for An Antivirus software for my computer
Hi good people:
Please I am looking for a very good antivirus software, that can effectively work with the screen reader without any problems. I previously used microsoft security essentials, but microsoft has stopped supporting windows 7 8 and xp operating systems, and since I use windows7, the software is now useless because it can not be updated any longer. I tried out Avira at a time, but it slowed down my computer seriously, making it extremely difficult to use the system. I also tried out Avast at a time, but it interfered all the time with the screen reader. Getting to remove it from my computer was a problem, and I had to get sighted assistance to do just that for me. Right now, my computer is now exposed to risk. So, please kindly recommend a free antivirus software that will not slow down my computer, and will not interfere with the functionality of the screen reader. Looking forward to read from you lovely people. Thanking you all in advance. Ibrahim. |

Essentials. If you are using Windows 7, you should be using that, not Windows Defender. The Windows Defender you could get for Windows 7 is not nearly as good a program. The Windows Defender in Windows 10 and I believe its the same program in Windows 8 is a good program. I would be very surprised if you can't get definition updates in Windows 8. As far as i Know, Microsoft is still supporting Windows 8. Gene On 4/3/20, Ibrahim Ajayi <kobisko@...> wrote:

Gene, you are correct that Windows Security (formerly Windows Defender) as implemented in Windows 8 and later is a top-flight full-service security suite. Anyone who want's the scoop on that can find it at third party labs that test security software. See the most recent plus the last several years of historical test results from:

Ibrahim,
It is absolutely still possible to update from Windows 7 to 10 at no cost. See my step-by-step tutorial: Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file Note: The only difference between the steps to do a repair install/feature update on a machine that already has Windows 10, and an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, is that the steps up to and including kicking off setup.exe will occur under Windows 7. I also found the following page at Microsoft indicating that Microsoft Security Essentials can no longer be downloaded, but that definition updates will continue through 2023. What is Microsoft Security Essentials? With this message, this topic is now locked, as it has nothing to do with NVDA. If you wish to discuss this further please do so on the Chat Subgroup. If you need specific assistance with regard to my tutorial feel free to contact me using the "Reply to Sender" link at the end of any message I've sent. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna
