New NVDA sounds
Ali Savas
Hello everyone,
some years ago the sounds of NVDA should have been renewed, but were discarded. Do any of you still have these sounds and could you send them to me? Thank you very much in advance and best regards Ali |

Sorry but I have an use this in a very very very long time and When I did, it wasn’t a lot of time. Thanks! On Apr 15, 2020, at 2:44 PM, Ralf Kefferpuetz <ralf.kefferpuetz@...> wrote: |

Do you know how these sounds were made or where do they come from? For my phonetic punctuation add-on I'm looking for more of these short and distinctive sounds to replace punctuation with.

They cam in a 2018 release of NVDA, but only for some weeks, not sure if it was just a beta version or an official release. As far as I can remember they were dropped because many blind users come with a hearing disease as well, so they were dropped coz they are a lot softer than the used ones.

Tony, I created them along with Andre Louis. I did the startup/shutdown sounds and he did the rest. Kara

they were originally supposed to be incorporated into NVDA as a part of the
program. There is therefore no explanation of how to replace the old files
with the new.
It may depend on whether you are running an installed or a portable version
of the program, where you would put the files. I’ll write more about the
portable version if people are interested in another message but you either back
up the original waves folder or delete it, create another folder called waves
and place the files in that or, if the download you got has the files already in
a folder called waves, paste that folder in the same place as the old waves
folder was.
That’s true of both the installed and portable versions but the waves
folder may be in a different place, I’m not sure.
To backup the old waves file, change its name to something like waves old,
that’s all you have to do. You can leave the folder where it is.

Done! Thank you, Gene.
Now, after using the new sounds for a few minutes, I feel that the old ones are better. -- Regards, Sociohack |

There is a folder called waves. The new sounds are just other wave
files. They are placed in a folder with the same name in the same location
as the old waves file now is.

I didn’t notice which list the message was directed to when I wrote my last
message. Since you are using NVDA, the letter k is the move by link
command.

Hi Kara, What tools did you use to create them? And do you know what tools did Andre use for his sounds (if different)? I would like to create some similar short sounds for punctuation marks... --Tony On 4/17/2020 2:48 AM, Kara Goldfinch

and also, you'll need to copy the old "waves" which are in the newer NVDA like screen curtain on and off which aren't in these. :)

Or, back up the old waves folder and copy the new wave files into the
original folder. You will be asked if you want to copy files for which
duplicate names exist. Answer yes when you get such questions and the old
files for things like the screen curtain will just be left alone, since there
are no duplicately named files in the new waves folder. Replacing the old
files with new ones and leaving sounds that shouldn’t be replaced isn’t
difficult nor time consuming.

Tony, I used Reaper and the reaSynth plugin it comes bundled with. I'm not sure what andre used. If you like, write me off list and I'd be happy to see about making some sounds for you. It'd be something to keep my mind of things. :) All the best, Kara On 17/04/2020 18:24, Tony Malykh wrote:
