I am needing assistance updating to the latest version of NVDA
Betsy Grenevitch
I have not seen any responses to my situation I posted earlier today so am assuming I did not name it a clear enough topic since I just responded to a topic I thought would get people's attention. As far as I know I have the latest version of NVDA before the latest one but could not download the latest update. I tried it two different times and got the message that my attempt to update failed. It said something about checking the log but I could not remember how to do that and most likely would not understand what it was saying. I looked at my notes and could not find how to tell which version of NVDA I have but know it is the one before this one because I always update when I am alerted to do so.
I would appreciate any assistance I can receive. Thanks. I am currently in Oregon so am on PST. -- Betsy Grenevitch 678-862-3876

Betsy, If you have not already done so I would recommend going to the NVDA Web site and downloading the full installer for 2020.2.

And to add to Mr. Goldfield's advice, if you have an issue running the full installer for NVDA 2020.2, then manually uninstall whatever NVDA you currently have installed via Control Panel, Programs and Features, then trying to install the latest again. But don't do that first, as an install-over install generally works just fine.

Thank you. I am waiting to hear back from David hopefully with a link to the full install. As I have told you and now told him I do not feel comfortable with websites where I have to download something unless there is a direct link. I know it is a fear I need to get over but I guess it is because of a lack of training on computers.

When you go to the nvaccess.org website, the folks who created and maintain NVDA, the Download link is at the very top of the page and there's another option elsewhere. It is absolutely, positively not up to anyone to provide anyone else with direct links, even though I, and many others, do so quite frequently. If you can't trust the site of the entity that makes something then trusting anyone providing you a link is a much bigger leap of faith. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Hi. Betsy, The NV Access Web site doesn't have a direct download link. When you select the Download link the file usually doesn't begin downloading. Instead, there is a form which gives you the option of donating to the NV Access project. There are radio buttons on the page where you can choose an amount to donate but there is a choice to skip the donation, which you are absolutely free to do. Once you complete this form the download process should start. Depending on which Web browser you are using and how it has been set up the download might begin automatically or you might receive some additional prompts. I think that the more you try it the easier it will become and the more your confidence level will increase. The bottom line is that we really can't provide a link that will immediately initiate the download process.

Sorry to clutter the list but I wanted to thank David and Sarah
for helping me so much. I did not have the website that sarah
mentioned written down before and when I went in that way it
worked. I have memory problems now and thus the reason my
confidence level is even lower. Thank you both for helping me have
the courage to try downloading it this way.
Thank you to those who designed the website that the link said
exactly what told me that I was at the correct spot to download
the latest update.

No worries. I just found out I have a slight brain disability last year as well. So I understand. Glad we could help. -- Sarah Alawami, owner of TFFP. . For more info go to our website.
