issues with quick nav of thunderbird and NVDA
Dan Beaver
I started having the problem where quick nav wasn't working at all. I took a look around and discovered that there had been an extension installed called Lightning. I looked into it and decided I didn't want it. I removed it and now my quick nav extension is working perfectly.
You might want to see if you have this extension installed
and ifg you do remove it. I bet your quick nav will start
working again. You could just disable it to test this first
before removing it.

The quick key nav is the only addon I have installed. Quick Key
Nav is very unreliable.

It should be noted that when you get to version 78.x, which isn't available through the program update yet, but its coming at some point, that the quick navigation add-on will no longer work, nor will the other add-on that adds functionality. I might be able to find out its name. Its something like Mozilla enhancements. I've said before that if people only use Thunderbird for e-mail, I think updating is a bad idea. If you use other features, it might make sense to do so.

Also, the Lightning add-on is no longer used in 78.X. The calendar function is built into the program. I don't know if it can be disabled but those are changes people who just let the program update should be aware of. If it can't be disabled, that might be another reason for not letting the program update. These topics need more discussion. Gene

The quick key folder navigation does work fine with thunderbird 78. plus they added some long waited feature "minimize to tray' to TB options And the options setting interface has become a lot easier to deal with. . SS

In that case, upgrading may be a good idea.

One thing that thunderbird 78 has is a calendar that is not a addon as it has been. Is there a way to disable the calendar?

If you're going to have problems, and you are no matter what you do (or don't do) it's better to have them with something where a solution will be actively being sought, and that means current versions (and/or supported versions - as come companies do support several at one time). -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 A gentleman is one who never hurts anyone's feelings unintentionally. ~ Oscar Wilde

You can turn off the today pain in view but even with it off any status message will announce the today pain as being active.

The calendar though is accessible if you do need it. I don't but some may.

Doing some experimenting. Just installed Thunderbird version 78.1 along with the quick key folder nav addon. Still having issues with the addon working as it should.

In one instance the quick key folder nav stopped working here last night.

Closing and reopening thunderbird solved it. SS

I notice the folders list does not speak after TB updates. I go to add-ons and check Quick Folder Key Navigation and make sure it is working and enabled.

Bob,
I would uninstall and reinstall Quick Folder Navigation if the version you have went in a long while ago. There have been some recent updates related to compatibility with the more recent versions of Thunderbird. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 A gentleman is one who never hurts anyone's feelings unintentionally. ~ Oscar Wilde

Yeah, but with the newest version there are still issues. I
have to go in and disable and then re-enable the extension every time I bring up Thunderbird.
I wish someone could do something about it because it is getting irritating. ;)

This interests me because I also notice similar behavior with version 3.0 of this addon. The addon appears to work as expected until I restart TB. Upon restarting TB the addon is still enabled but the addon itself acts as if it has been disabled. First letter navigation does not move to the relevant folder and the addon's option does not appear in the context menu. If I go into addon settings and disable the addon and then enable it the addon works properly once again until I close and restart TB. I wrote to the addon author who was unable to reproduce the issue. I then asked about it on the Thunderbird support list and was given a suggestion which didn't work for me. I have reinstalled TB as well as removed and then reinstalled the addon.

Hi Group,

The quick key folder navigation is a Thunderbird add on not an NVDA add on. What I have noticed is that since a recent update of Thunderbird that some how the use quick key folder navigation item becomes unchecked under Thunderbird settings/add on manager after you close Thunderbird. You have to recheck the check box every time you launch the program to get it to work again.

Hi Brian,
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the quick key folder navigation add on and my issue where the checkbox to use it becomes unchecked after you close the program still persists. On 8/31/2020 2:41 PM, Brian Vogel
