What is the command to do this in the latest version of NVDA to copy spoken text to the clipboard? Thanks.

There is not an in-built command. You will need the Speech History add-on: https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/speech_history.en.html Cheers Sam

You should have a read of how it works, as there is no paste command. The copy command, I believe, is f12, but I have redefined this.

Right on the page that Mr. Taylor originally gave is this: The add-on allows you to review the most recent 100 items spoken by NVDA, as well as copy the selected item to the clipboard. By default, use Shift+F11 to move back through the history, Shift+F12 to move forwards and F12 on its own to copy the selected item. These hotkeys can be updated from within the Speech category of NVDA's Input gestures dialog.

Kudos to somebody for creating this plugin but I think this should be rolled into the core functionality of NVDA. Being able to copy the last spoken item to the clipboard is standard in VoiceOver and other popular screen reader programs and I can’t imagine it would be too difficult to add.

Check on GitHub and see if that's already been proposed in an issue, and if not, create a new feature request issue noting just what you've said here. There have been a number of add-ons that have had their functionality integrated into the NVDA core over time. One I use, Focus Highlight, is one of those, but there have been a number of others. I'm not seeing anything with a very quick and dirty search, but I also may not be using whatever "magic search terms" would pull this up. Someone else may know if such an issue already exists off the top of their heads. Why not make that suggestion on the github so the developers can track the issue, and or suggestion? I always tell people to do this. As time has gone by it's become a far less "minimal" core, often via the absorption of what had started out life as an add-on into the core functionality. But when the functionality exists as an add-on, the pressing need for it to "become core" is greatly minimized. So, often, novel core functions will be created rather than integrating add-ons into the core itself. It's really no different than JAWS in that respect. There are lots of things that still are done via scripts in JAWS that are analogous to the things done in add-ons in NVDA. End users, particularly those new to screen readers, need to be made aware of the existence of these scripts/add-ons out there, both official and home grown (but most often shared with whoever needs/wants them). Yes, I will certainly add it as a new feature request on GitHub. Admittedly I just assumed somebody had already requested it long ago considering it’s a pretty bread and butter screen reader feature, but it sounds like maybe that’s not the case. You guys probably know this already but there is some limited copy functionality already in NVDA. For example, using object navigation, if you hold down NVDA and press numb pad 5 three times rapidly it will copy the last announced navigator item.
