HIMS Syncbraille Display and NVDA on Desktop PC
Dark Count
Hello.
I got a weird issue. I have managed to hook up and utilize a HIMS Syncbraille display with NVDA on my laptop, and even a few tablets using NVDA 2020.3. But it will not run on my desktop pc. I installed the drivers recommended on the user guide of NVDA, but nothing is happening. I don't see specific display drivers listed in Braille settings for HIMS any longer as in prior versions of NVDA. So I have selected automatic. This works with the laptop etc. But nothing on the PC. Odd thing is that I can get the native windows screen reader to see it and work with it on it. Thanks for any help. D C |

If you cannot see the HIMS driver on your NVDA installation, the HIMS drivers have not been properly or completely installed. Try installing again and run the file as admin. There are two installations that take place so do see them through to the end. Keep in mind that the drivers are for USB, and that bluetooth does not require the drivers. You would instead need to pair the device under Bluetooth.

This is very odd. I did just as you suggested, but still no cigar. It still does not see the display. Its confounding me since narrator sees them right away and I get Braille. I thought the external drivers were no longer needed back in 2018.
Thanks,

Hi
I think you have said it. I found, using the Braille Sense, that if I used Narrator to read braille I could no longer use the Braille Sense with NVDA. I hope someone on here can tell you how to get out of this hole, because I don't know the answer. pele West |

Because Narrator replaces the driver for his own driver. Do the following: Press ctrl-win-n for narrator settings. Not necessary to have Narator running. Press shift-tab a 17 times. You will land on a option to choose the brailledisplay driver and press space to open this menu. Choose the right driver with arrows and enter. If I SHIFT+TAB seventeen times I land on the checkbox for Sync the Narrator cursor and system focus, which is checked by default. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 If you think that you can think about a thing, inextricably attached to something else, without thinking of the thing it is attached to, then you have a legal mind. ~ Thomas Reed Powell

Indeed, you don't have a brailledisplay, that is the reason. Marten On Wed, 02 Dec 2020 13:16:02 -0800 "Brian Vogel" <britechguy@...> wrote:

I was unable to use it before narrator. That is why I gave it a try. D C On 12/2/2020 12:42 AM, Pele West wrote:
