update on my Gmail issue

Bob Cavanaugh

Hi all,
I just discovered something that is a little strange. The contacts
list in Gmail's basic HTML view is also a table, and NVDA reads names
associated with the checkboxes on that page, but not when browsing
messages.

My question is can someone get a list of contacts how do you get there? Also how are you are able to send more than one attachment

Hi

Are you aware you can get your g mails through the thunder bird client that is how I do it at the moment or actually for years.

Far easier I guess than the web version.

I was interested in Thunderbird about 10 years ago, but never
installed it. I'm fine with using the web interface, as long as it's
the basic HTML. As for getting a list of contacts, there's a link for
that in your navigation. To send more than one attachment, activate
the button that says "attach more files."

As an aside, the regular Gmail webmail interface is now a lot more accessible that it was way back when.  I used to suggest only using the basic HTML interface, but no more.  Particularly if you activate the Google keyboard shortcuts and accessibility settings for the regular interface.

Are you using basic HTML or standard view? If Basic HTML, the easiest
way to find it is to navigate by heading from the top of the page, it
will be there as a link and a heading. As for attachments, it doesn't
open a dialog right away, it opens a second page where there are 10
more browse buttons that you then have to use just like the first one.
If you're using standard view, I'll have to test this out and get back
to you.

Or you can just use your screen-reader's search to search for cont from the top of the page. You will find contacts on the first search. Search is one of the most powerful and underused means of efficient navigation. Most of the time, typing the first four letters of what you are looking for will be sufficient to find the item in the first search or the first repetition of the search.

You may already know this, but I just played around with contacts in the simple HTML view. If you check the check boxes for all the contacts you want to include in a message, then press the compose button, the message will open with all the addresses you checked.

Amen!  This bears repeating, as often as necessary, until screen reader search use increases significantly.  It also allows for very quick determination if something suspected to be present is actually present or not, including controls like buttons.

Hi

It’s at heading lev3el 3 so press 3 a few times when in browse mode and you should land on the Contacts link.
