Firefox problems using NVDA

Howard Traxler

Mainly using NVDA latest with latest Win 10.  I've been forced to update my Firefox to access my bank and credit card companies.  Now my updated firefox does not show pages (cannot read by line or hot keys).  Wondering if there's an NVDA setting that must be changed to make firefox work again?

Appreciate any thought on the subject.  Thank you.

You can run the registry fix tool just in case it solves the problem but I am very skeptical that it will. It is in the tools submenu.

There is no such NVDA setting. To clarify, you discussed the problem on another list and you didn't report that unknown is spoken when you try to read a document. Your description of what you see indicates that no document window is shown. You say that using a very old version of Firefox, version 52.x, you can see the document.

I don't know what is causing the problem, but I don't think it is an NVDA problem. Do you have a sighted person who can tell you if he/she sees the document window and if it looks different than it should?

Also, you reported other problems with your system such as two or three error messages on boot up. You need to make the list aware of those messages and what happens when you try to reinstall a JAWS demo. One or more of the problems may be causing the problem you are having with Firefox. Firefox has undergone significant internal changes since 52.x and one or more of the errors may affect it.

Hi,

Firefox is available in different portable versions. So you could try and use different Firefox versions in different scenarios.

from mack I am in the U. S. and use chase all the time, but I don't use the ESR version of firefox. if you want to stay with that, install the most up to date standard version as a portable copy. when I open library, ctrl shft o and choose the bookmark for chase I land on a page where I can enter user name and password. this is the link,

If NVDA is reporting unknown then definitely the first thing I would try is NVDA+N, then T then "Run COM Registration fixing tool" - that's basically exactly the description of the problem it was designed to fix.

Also, if you haven't restarted the whole PC since updating Firefox, do that first as well.

Kind regards

Quentin.
