NVDA no longer announces which virtual desktop I am in nor announces them as I move through them.

1. Which version of NVDA?
2. How are you switching desktops?
3. What version of Windows?

In 20H2, latest NVDA alpha, it's announcing fine with control+windows+right/left.

Well, fineish. I would prefer it to announce the desktop prior to the running app, but the point is that it does announce.

Windows 10 fully updated as of March 23, 2021
NVDA 2020.4
I use the same move commands as you. but since the
windows update I don't hear anything.
It will announce whatever app has the focus.

This really could be either NVDA or something having gone slightly "off" with the Windows Update.

As far as NVDA:  The Most Basic Troubleshooting Steps for Suspected NVDA Issues

As far as Windows 10:
1. Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10
and then, if that doesn't solve it:
2. Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file

For myself, I'd do the SFC/DISM first, the NVDA troubleshooting steps next, and the repair install last.

Hi,
Can you verify that Windows 10 App Essentials is enabled? You can do it in
two ways:
1. Open Add-ons Manager and see if Windows 10 App Essentials is shown as
"enabled".
2. Open Settings (Windows+I), then search for things. If the add-on is
working, NVDA will announce "N suggestions".

Cheers,
Joseph

Joseph,

That is critically important, and I'm starting to believe that in addition to Windows 10 Version and Build, NVDA version, and software being used version (when applicable), that a list of NVDA Add-Ons active is something that's needed generally for a number of more in-depth questions.

I cannot recall, but is what is now Windows 10 App Essentials slated to be subsumed into the NVDA core code at any point in the foreseeable future?

Hi,

Yes, the long-term goal is for important portions of the add-on code to be included in NVDA. Announcing virtual desktops is one of these, and there was an effort to do this for some time. Virtual desktops will become important in the future as evidenced by changes being tested by Windows Insiders.

Cheers,

Joseph

I'm sorry, but that is insufficient. We have no way of knowing if "fully updated" for your machine, is the same as fully updated for another machine. What does winver say, specifically the second line?

And of course the other questions about Windows 10 App Essentials need to be answered as well.

It works for me. I do hear desktop 2, desktop 3, etc. Did you try scanning your system for errors etc? Look in this groups archives for more information.
