Contacting add-on developers where no contact information is provided
Louise Pfau
Hi. I just looked on the add-on compatibility status page, and there
are some add-ons listed with no contact information associated with the name of
the developer. I’ve cross-referenced the list against my own list of
installed add-ons to see which of the add-ons I have are currently compatible
with NVDA 2021.1. I’ll provide my list of installed add-ons upon request,
so there is no clutter on the list.
Thanks,

Louise,
I just reviewed the Add-Ons Compatibility page, and there are a few Add-Ons where the developer is identified by name, but no e-mail address is given. I would ask Quentin, or whoever is in charge of that page, to please reply to this message with regard to who should be contacted as maintainer of that page if someone knows the missing addresses. I have no idea how one would submit an update. One of the things I feel should be on any page like this is an entry, either at the top or bottom, that clearly identifies the point of contact for updates to that page. My guess is there is someone who knows the missing email addresses, but perhaps not. One of the add-ons where Tyler Spivey is the developer is missing his address, and I've added it in the list below, which are all the ones on the page I found without email information for the developers. There is also one that lists Doug Lee as the developer and he has his own Contact & Support page, to which I've given the link, and maintains his own website as a whole, and I've given that link, too. --------------------------- Dual Voice · Compatible: Yes (external link NOTE: The link is missing and needs to be included. · Contact: Seyed Mahmood Taghavi-Shahri

Hi all, Initial contact info came from add-on manifests. I have updated the compatible add-ons document to update status on some add-ons, including adding Tyler's address for Speech History add-on. As for overall compatibility list document logistics and edits, it depends on how add-on authors deal with compatibility breaking changes - that is, we the add-ons community relies on information coming from add-on authors (by the way, I'm limited in what I can do with add-ons community as I just retired from the owner position on add-ons list). Hi, Quick follow-up: expect huge changes to compatible add-ons list within the next hour. Cheers, Joseph |

Hi, Last modified timestamp is at the bottom of every page located on the community add-ons site, including the compatibility list. Cheers, Joseph |

Hi
100 percent agree. Especially if the add on will work with the new nvda 2021.1
release and beyond. Gene nz

Hi Tim
I wish the ones that have not been updated for years would be removed and put onto another page
Then again there are some add ons like that I wish some one would update to work with the latest release of nvda. The one that comes to mind is the for example tip of the day would help new users of nvda. and guess there would be some others.

I wish the ones that have not been updated for years would be removed and put onto another page- I'd certainly separate out anything not compatible with 2020.X to its own category, if nothing else. Anything not updated to be compatible after 2019.3 is really unlikely to be updated for 2021.1 unless someone were to pick up a long dropped torch. There are definitely some things on that page that I have no recall of seeing on the Community Add-Ons page. Whether it's this page or the Community Add-Ons page, I'd rather see the add-ons grouped by release up through which they're compatible and, where there are backward compatibility breaking releases, something noting that they're NOT compatible for earlier than that given release. But, since there is only one NVDA release currently in support at any one moment in time, it makes no sense to me to mix in things that are, say, compatible up through 2019.3 (only) with the add-ons compatible with later releases. And after a certain point I'd either remove an add-on or create an "out of support" section so that old add-ons are identified and, perhaps, someone might want to take over developing them again. But anything in that section would be well known to be non-functional with current NVDA. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 I do not understand why some seek to separate a person from their actions. Hi, A few months ago there was a discussion about unmaintained add-ons on add-ons list. The consensus is that it is really up to add-on authors to show responsibility, with an option for the community to take care of (maintain) an add-on after waiting on authors for a few months. The fact that one of the add-ons that I haven't maintained for a while just received an update from someone is an example of willingness by the community to keep an eye on unmaintained add-ons. I expect policies about unmaintained add-ons might change in the future (won' t go into details because it is up to nV Access and add-ons community to communicate future activities0. Cheers, Joseph |

I expect policies about unmaintained add-ons might change in the future- Well, I hope those changes might reflect consideration of the input here. And I do mean consideration, not that each and every one of us who's offered an opinion will get what we want. There seems to be a general consensus over time that how things are organized is "not organic" as far as what one would expect and that eases finding what one might be looking for in a somewhat natural/logical way. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 I do not understand why some seek to separate a person from their actions.
