delayed speech

what would cause NVDA  to delay in speaking after it has been idol? A friend is having this problem on a brand new pc. He can up arrow to text and it speaks a second and a half later.

The sound card goes to sleep after a period of silence.  Use Silenzio to work around the problem.
If you follow this link, you can read about it and download it.

When you are on the page, search from the top for Silenzio.

There is no setting, to my knowledge.  The program simply has to be running in the background.  It constantly feeds "silence" to the sound card so that it can never go to sleep and, indirectly, neither can any Bluetooth audio device it's streaming to.

And by feeding silence I mean just that - it plays zero volume sound.  What allows the card to be put to sleep is when no sound is being sent to it by anything.

There is also an NVDA Add-On, BluetoothAudio, meant to address the same issue.

I believe the page I gave a link to briefly discusses how to use the program.  As I recall, you have to set it to work with the specific sound card.  If it isn’t clear how to work with the program, ask here.  I haven’t used it.
