Hello Orbit Reader 40 users. As you probably already know their has been a new firmware update to the 40 plus model. Here is some clarifications from Orbit Research on a few things having to do with the latest update released a few days ago. Thank you.

Hello List Members,

 

Some of you have asked about connecting with NVDA and iOS.  We will be posting a detailed message about this soon, but wanted to share some guidelines in the interim:

 

  1. We recommend keeping Emulation ON for use with NVDA and iOS, and Emulation OFF for JAWS
  2. The latest firmware version has emulation off by default.
  3. If you are using the Orbit Reader 40 only with an iPhone, turn on emulation from the menu before pairing and connecting.  As before, it will connect with VoiceOver as “VarioUltra 40”
  4. If you are using the Orbit Reader 40 only with JAWS only, you can connect over USB or Bluetooth with JAWS without having to change the default setting (Emulation OFF)
  5. If you are using both, JAWS and an iOS device:
    1. Pair and connect with JAWS using default emulation settings (Emulation OFF)
    2. Then, go to the menu, turn on emulation and connect to the iOS device
    3. Once you have established connections with both:

                                                               i.      To switch from iPhone to JAWS, put the phone on standby (lock the screen), turn off emulation from the menu, and restart JAWS. It should connect automatically. You don’t need to forget the device and pair it again.

                                                             ii.      To switch from JAWS to iPhone, turn on emulation from the menu, and lock and unlock the phone. It should connect automatically. You don’t need to forget the device and pair again.
