time built-in command

All of a sudden, doing NVDA plus f12 tells me the volume level; not the time and date.  I ran the NVDA repair program but that didn't fix it  Need I reinstall NVDA?

Have you followed The Most Basic Troubleshooting Steps for Suspected NVDA Issues?

You need to eliminate the possible involvement of add-ons, among other things.

You do not say whether you've restarted your machine, and I do mean using the Restart power option, or any of several other preliminary diagnostic steps.  You need to go through those before it can be determined whether NVDA itself has "gone wonky" or if something else may have.

Hi,
Is this a laptop?
If on the desktop, will alt+F4 bring up the shut down menu?
If not, It seems that you have activated the function key mode.
Press function insert F12 to see if it tells the time.

It's a desktop computer; no FN key.  At this point, pressing NVDA plus F12 says nothing.  Maybe it said the volume because I had the volume control window open.  Tried running NVDA without addons; didn't fix the problem.  Tried turning off background apps, too; but many calculator windows are still running

Perhaps this all is a windows problem; and I'm mixing up my mailing lists?  Sorry.

This problem, along with the calculator problem, may indicate, taken together, a problem with Windows or something else on the system.  It might be time to have the machine looked at.  Or if the machine is too old, to get a new or another one.

WOW!  On my second machine, NVDA updated and all's well.  Time function came back.

I haven't heard of anything like this before.  Have you restarted the PC lately?  Particularly if you have updated NVDA recently.  Which version of Windows are you using?

As others have suggested, restarting NVDA without add-ons is also worth trying.

Good to hear Howard!  Sorry I hadn't seen this message when I replied to your other one (If you had made this a reply to that thread it would have kept it all together).

In any case, glad it's working!

Quentin.
